6.5 Creedmoor
It is somewhat overbore...
squib, what say you?
You win, I concede
So what does 6mm Creed offer that .243 Win doesn't? Is it an OAL thing for extra long 6mm bullets? How heavy a 6mm projectile can you get?
Pretty much the same reason I bought mine. Maybe ammo was a little more scarce at first but as the caliber is gaining acceptance with various shooting disciplines, the costs have come down....as expected. I rarely have issues finding bullets and brass. I would like to think that if I decided on chuck hunting I would be able to put one in his eye at 4-500 yards. Is it something you want to carry on a 4 day mountain hunting expedition? Most likely no but I have used it for hunting and slung with the folded stock made it easy to move around.[
I bought 6 creedmoor because Ruger doesn't offer the RPR in 243 anymore,,,,I believe they did in Generation 1. I bought the 6 over the 6.5 because of the deal I found on the rifle I wanted through Brownells because it was Generation 2 model. Both of these calibers shoot high BC bullets that are used in long range matches, as I'm sure you probably already know. For some reason I wanted a gun and a specific caliber that would shoot long ranges well to hunt woodchucks,,,,something I enjoy doing. I would of probably purchased a 243 if they made one, being that I wanted low recoil and something that was accurate in the 0 to 500 yd range.
Someone pointed out in this thread that I'm paying more chasing the new shiny. How that possibly is, is beyond me. The particular rifle I wanted costs the same in either 6, 6.5 or 308. Its what the RPR goes for. The ammo is no more expensive than any other ammo that is out there.
I like the RPR because its similar to what AR's use for certain parts and similar to what they look like.
I have 4 guns I use for hunting and 3 of them are AR's in different calibers and the 4th gun is a shotgun. I hunt Turkey, Ducks and Geese, Deer, Coyote, Fox and Woodchuck.
6.5 Creedmoor was just starting to get cheap! The max bullet and oal is dictated by the bullet length.
So it depends on the type of bullet and construction(shape) not simply grains.
These cartridges are all over-bored.
I would say the 6mmx47 lapua is about the max on wants and possibly the best.
Anything larger is really a bit of a waste and dashers and other exotic choices are not worthy.
For most folks there is little reason to not go with the 6mm BR lapua that is one
of the most (if not the most) efficient and accurate cartridge ever designed.
Cheap? like surplus cheap or like it is not a high end match winning load?6.5 Creedmoor was just starting to get cheap!
Yup, looks good. Wonder how much freebore you actually have. I seat mine pretty long now that its burned out a bit. Seated .015 off the lands and still hangs out the case.Guess I got a good barrel I assume, no markings.

Burned out? How many rounds do you have through it. Ive done a little research and from what Ive read,,its basically time for a new barrel after 1500 rounds.Yup, looks good.
