Remington 700 6.5 cm "Little Monster "

I've upgraded my Remington 700 with a Timney 2-stage trigger and a Nikon 4-15x50 BLACK FX1000 MRAD scope. I zeroed it last Tuesday at Davis in Goshen. Today, I stretched its legs. I verified the 100 yard zero for Hornady 147 gr. ELD match with 2 rounds. I dialed in 1000 yards on the Hornady app and set the indicated elevation on the scope. It was rainy and foggy and the target was visible but not clear. But, there was very little wind. I was able to hit the target with the first shot. I heard the bullets strike and the hit light flashed. But, I could not tell where on the target the strike was. I emptied the mag on the 1000 yard target and then worked on other targets between 400 and 700 yards.

I've named the rifle, "little monster".

The second gun was my old reliable Savage Axis 2 223. I can't hit 1000 yards with it. But, it hits everything inside 400 yards.

Don't laugh at the huge muzzle brake. It didn't look that huge in the photos.

I love the Hornady app, esp the 4DOF side. Do you use it? Zero angle or 100 yard zero? Have you set the axial form factor for your set up?

I just used the default settings. I just want ball-park numbers. I’d be surprised if my muzzle velocity was the same as recorded in the app. I can adjust the setting after that. That’s part of the fun.

The 4DOF side can def get pricey, if you get really serious. A Kestrel (which you can pair to your phone via bluetooth), and a chronograph utilizing Doppler radar are very useful tools for someone who wants to dive into the deep end of the pool, I.e. competitive long range shooters.

Usually, most ppl live on the BC G1/G7 Calculator side of life, which is more than good enough for serious 0-600 yard hunting, which is where I'm at.

Sheepdog Warrior, near Catskill.

I spent a cold morning shooting at Sheepdog Warrior near Catskill. They have some covered shooting benches and steel targets set up out to 650 yards or so. You don’t need any special equipment at all. I took my Savage Axis 2 223 with the 55 gr. Norma Tac 223 I have never shot the thing...
