Kyle never denied shooting and killing them. His trial positively ruled that he did so in justified self defense.
OJ was just not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, but when the civil trial came around he *was* guilty by a preponderance of the evidence.
Kyle was different. I don't think the civil trail can argue the justification again. It wasn't just that the prosecution didn't prove he did it. It was the defense that proved he was justified. I don't think the different evidentiary standard for a civil trial makes a difference there.
OJ went to prison because he committed additional unrelated crimes long after the murder case was decided.

As we all know, the prosecutor in the criminal case needed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he did it.
But in a civil case the plaintiff and the defendant are considered essentially equal, so the Goldmans merely needed to prove it was more likely than not that he did.
So, the conclusion of both cases was "he probably did it, but we can't say for sure beyond a reasonable doubt".

I'm not anti police in general.
Just some of the attitudes many of them harbor.
Strikes me like the professional carpenter who thinks nobody should be allowed to build their own deck or install their own cabinets because they won't do it right.

On the night in question the police were not doing their jobs, perhaps because they were ordered not to. In a situation like that, I would want someone like Rittenhouse around.

uuum, was Kyle looking for trouble, not really. He was attacked first, and he ran away. The three or four attackers, went after him first. He defended himself. AFTER the self-defense, he ran TOWARD the police and tried to flag them down, they drove by him. He turned himself in/

His first encounter was with the guys pushing the burning dumpster into a gas station.
Don't see the firemen complaining he was doing their job.
That's what set off the miscreants that came after him.
