Ruger 10/22 build

I searched the threads and was surprised not to find any mention of the 10/22 custom target guns, and the hundreds of after market accessories that are available.. I've read some bad reviews on Rugers factory target model, So seeing I have two Sporter models I might better build my own target competition gun. I'd be highly interested in your thoughts on barrels.. Special tool needed for pulling and attaching ?? I will want the .920 bull but should I go lightweight or heavy ? Steel, fluted, stainless, or carbon fiber ? Also what's out there for stock replacements ? I don't suppose Coumo made any exceptions for thumbhole in .22 rimfire because I like what Boyd's has to offer..

Yep. Did one up a long time ago and thanks to our beloved safe act had to replace the stock from a Boyd's thumbhole stock to it's current configuration. Receiver is stock, trigger group is a volquartzen and I don't recall off the top of my head whose barrel it is, but definitely not Ruger's.

Just got back from a rimfire match. Need to shoot from different positions, all timed. So gongs and paper . A quick and accurate gun under 100 yards..

I bought a standard sporter, put an ER Shaw 16" bull barrel on it, polished the trigger parts and inside of the receiver where the bolt carrier runs, and with standard target ammo i could shoot dime sized groups at 75 yards. I sold that barrel as it was threaded, and bought a green mountain fluted bull barrel, but havent even shot it yet to see how good it is.

You will never get a tack driver with a stock barrel. Pillar bed the action and your going to need to buy or build a nice trigger group also.


I can cover 10 rounds at 50 yards with a dime.

I'm not sue if I should keep it lightweight or heavy ended.. I would expect most matches cover more shooting positions.

I have an adams and Bennett SS fluted bull and a green mountain SS fluted bull on the two I built. They are tack drivers, but heavy even with the flutes.

always have like the looks of this Volq's barrel for my 10/22 .. just never had the $$$

when i got it from dad for Christmas .. less then a week it was at a gunsmith .. trigger and bolt mod..

Carbon fiber barrel. BX trigger with polished trigger parts. Leupold fixed 10 power scope.
Lightweight. I've shot nickels at 100 yards on a calm day.

I leaning towards a replacement , a Stocky's Euro model in timber or granite.. I'll order something up after next weekend.

A prime day deal for the new build, I'm not sure if I'll use it, it's super heavy for it size but it has parallax adjustments down to 10 yards.

It's shaping up to be a nice weekend ! This barrel from AR-7 Custom Accessories just landed on my steps, a late b-day gift from the wife.. just need a trigger group then I'll make an attempt at putting it all together..
Ps.. 18" ported for the nasty .22 long rifle recoil and because it looks cool. But most importantly because they forgot about porting in the safe act..so far..

I'm thinking a whole lot less options if you chose a take down down as a starter , I'm thinking very little if any replacement stock options and you would be limited to factory size barrels..
