Ruger LCP II in .22LR

Lite Rack™ LCP® II in .22 LR

figures.. I was looking for a tiny .22LR semi, and all I could find was a Taurus or Beretta Bobcat,, Bought the bobcat for a lot of money, and a week later, Ruger comes out with this.. Supposedly very easy to rack, 10+1 capacity, and teeny tiny/light...
They will sell them by the millions... I will be picking one up as well, but plan on waiting until the prices come down.. MSRP is the same as the .380 model..
Only place that has any so far that I could find was Buds, and they want $318 w. credit, $308 cash.. In 6 months places will be selling them on sale for $250 or so.. Looks like ruger has come up with another winner.. Not an ideal SD gun, but if its easy to rack, a LOT of women and older folks like me will buy.. I had an LCP II and it was a great little gun, but man it was painful to shoot, even for a fair size guy like me... I ditched it for Kel tec P 32, which is a softer shooter..
Ruger has come up with some good ideas past few years, and they sell a LOT of them to guys that don't even need any more guns.... They seem to know what gun buyers will buy... bob

I’m not really seeing what the purpose of this is? I can see their full sized Mark something or other as a premier target and hunting pistol but a 22 lr in a micro ccw package? What is the purpose? Concealed carry?

Training?

Is it the same size as the "regular" LCP II?

Same size. Very thin and you can barely get 2 fingers on the grip and that’s with a pinky extension.

If it’s for training, that’ll be a very limited market since most people end up training with the caliber they shoot. Most. Not all.

The gun is marketed to women and the elderly. People with weaker hand strength that want a low recoil easy to rack gun.

Is it the same size as the "regular" LCP II?

Great training gun instead of blowing through .380..
Supposedly very easy to operate the slide, it has a safety for those that want one, unlike the .380 model.
Same size weight and cost as the .380 model

I think they will sell a LOT of them..

Right now, the smallest .22 available is a Beretta bobcat.. I have one. Just bought it..
More money than The ruger, capacity is 3 rounds less, and its bigger and heavier.. Hard as hell to rack unless cocked first, but the tilt up barrel means it never has to be racked anyway..

I disagree with the notion that it doesn't make sense, and has a limited market.. I could be wrong of course, but I think they have another winner and will sell more than they can supply to their dealers, which has been happening quite a bit to ruger lately...
We'll see, but I think a LOT of LCP owners are going to grab these up..
Me personally, I would have NO hesitation and feel perfectly safe carrying 10 rounds of CCI Mini Mags in a good reliable gun for SD... bob

I think the more options that can come to market, generally, the better. People will either buy it- or they won't.

By "the smallest .22 available" though I take it you mean "smallest semiautomatic .22 available"? I dont have the dimensions in front of me for either but I'd have to imagine the NAA single action revolvers are smaller. Just a "small" nitpick (provided I'm even correct!)

ETA to @Marine Cpl- I can see wanting to train on a rimfire caliber in the same frame / manual of arms as your main carry weapon (for mechanics and cost, not accuracy). Though I'm not a .380 guy so I dont know if the ammo price difference is noticeable or negliable. I do know a .22 Kadet slide for my CZ 75 is pricey (last I checked it was like $300+) so for some maybe buying a whole pistol is appropriate vs. a conversion?

Won't get into the SD aspects of the NAA's (or really anything that small in single action in .22LR) because they're... practically nonexistent in my mind. I suppose a case could be made for the magnum at least. I think I'd rather have a slightly larger caliber as a BUG, which is really all the NAA would be good for (just my opinion).

I agree with you on the fit and finish for sure. I will say this though I gave myself a nice powder burn the first time I was out with one...

For training this will be a good asset for a lot of folks!

I myself have a S&W M&P full size 40sw/9mm conversion then the year before last bought the SIRT 107 ( M&P full size clone ) and then last year bought the M&P 22 full size, all 3 use the same holster A PLUS!! And I have a S&W Shield 9mm so black Friday I picked up the M&P Compact feels just like the Shield in my hand and also fit's the same holsters as the Shield A PLUS!

Now for helping someone with their grip, trigger, breathing and so on a 22 is a great gun to use (Rifle or Pistol!) A lot of rounds cheap and muscle memory which can take 1000 to 30,000 repetitions to build. Plus 22's are just plain fun to shoot!!

I have a Beretta 950BS, .22 short. Bought new back in the 80's. 100% reliable with CCI .22S hollow points. It's hard not to love it. So comfortable, so easy to toss in your pocket.

The recoil and follow up shots will be horribly different. Will I buy one meh I doubt it. In a few years if I have some extra cash sitting around and nothing to spend it on maybe.

I agree. Probably the biggest training issue with the LCP II is dealing with the recoil and accurate follow up shots. 22 will not help with that. Also the forward push safety is not my cup of tea.

I don’t think the recoil is horrible either but saying a .22lr variant will be a great comparison IMO is foolish. The .22lr will be much milder. I feel the recoil on my LCPII. My biggest problem is my finger on the trigger reset gets pinched between the trigger and the trigger guard. Hurts everytime.

To the Naysayer's, How many rounds of 380 or 9mm can you afford to send down range each time you go to the range? ( Granted some of you I am sure pay for Range time by the hour or even half! ) Me I can spend the whole day if I chose too, plus I can just shoot in my own back yard. And as @SmallGameAddict say's

A lot of things some, or most, of you do are completely foreign to me.

Paying for range time, when I can go to the gun club, and shoot all day every day for $25/year.

Or, simply drive to my acreage down the road and shoot a .22 to my heart's content.

I'm heading the the Club in a little while myself, to put some 22's down range from my M&P full size and new compact along with the Phoenix HP22 that I mentioned above.

@SmallGameAddict you are getting off cheap at $25/year, I pay $125/year which is for me is cheap as I use it A LOT!!

You likely have stronger hands than a lot of the population, whether you believe it or not. And, you likely shoot/train more than many gun owners too...

They say if you don't understand a product then you weren't the target audience,I could see my sister shooting one of these she is roughly 4'10" and didnt have the finger strength to rack a Beretta 21a that my father was going to give her.
