Iraq invaded Kuwait. That's what started the whole gulf war 1 off.
The equivalent today would be us pushing Putin back out of Ukraine.
It's not an invasion if you're repelling another invader at the request of the invaded country.

First time I was a dumb kid, so I knew little of it. Second time I was for it. Although I never bought the lie that bush was very happy to let others push that iraq had any relationship to 911 whatsoever (and this was justification for many), I always knew saddam was a piece of shit, and I did buy the lie that they were in major breach of UN regulations.
I was lied to plain, and simple. Bush should have faced criminal charges for his role in perpetrating the 2003 iraq invasion and I will never forgive him or his cronies for being complicit in it. It was a bogus invasion built on lies--rather like the one we're seeing here.

FWIW, I was too young to know what was going on during Gulf 1, but we were requested to intervene, so while I don’t support foreign interventionism a la John Quicy Adams’ warning not to seek foreign monsters to slay, it was at least not a clusterf**k of questionable decisions. Gulf II was not a good move. Although I think there was at least some good-faith reasoning that Saddam had some bad weapons, it was overall a lie and one of the reasons why Putin can look at the West and say, why can’t I have mine? And as stated earlier, I don’t think it takes much imagination to look at the Russian and Soviet empires of the past and reason that if the West had colonies and they were OK with that for so long, Putin might as well again join the party, albeit belatedly.
Something here feels off though. Putin is usually more interested in Sabre-rattling and bluster than pulling the trigger on something like this. And making nuclear threats after this, while I’d normally say is a part of his brinkmanship, has to give us pause now that he’s shown a total willingness to follow through on threats. I don’t know what’s going through his mind, but he’s gone from merely being an asshole to being both a threat and a madman.

The whole "madman" thing could be a carefully orchestrated act.
That is supposedly how trump got the north korean dictator to the negotiating table. A story I heard was the north koreans asked around in the nations they have friendly relations with - does trump really mean what he says? The answer was they didn't know if that crazy fucker would actually do something. So he agreed to sit down with trump. Not sure it's true but I think it's plausible.

I think Kim has been begging for an audience with every POTUS since Clinton, Trump was the first one who agreed to talk to him.
And low and behold it worked. You don't need yo airdrop pallets of cash like Kerry does with Iran. You just need to sit down and talk with them head of state to head of state.
Trump's business negotiation skills shined there. he is very used to negotiating from that exact position, as peer to peer, but he’s a far more powerful peer.
Clinton, Kerry, all the rest negotiate from this diplomatic mindset of "let me see with I can get them to say without saying anything myself".
Trump is more like "I want them to do this, and here's my limits of what I'm willing to do to accomplish it".
Authoritarian leaders will respect the more straightforward approach of Trump, and they will see the typical Washington DC approach as a sign of weakness to be exploited.
And exploit us they have. I think odds are very good we'll see Iran conduct a nuclear test before we get the Biden/Harris administration out of the white house.

We will be in this war by the end of the week to some degree. Now NATO planes can keep Russian planes out of Ukrainian air space and I bet you one shoots down one or the other and then it’s all over.
