The SAFE Act didn't get approved without GOP support.
There is plenty of blame to go around. And yes, we gun owners shoulder a good portion of it for not coming together.

Ugh I was going to do the whole certified mail thing but considering I'm stuck inside for the next couple days I might just do it electronically.
I've said this all along. Just watch what happens when they decide to enact a "PP recertification "fee"". Suppose they decided to charge a per handgun fee to recertify, maybe a couple of dollars/firearm. At 1st everyone would bitch about it, but then figure; "this sucks, but it's ONLY a couple of bucks"! So it starts out costing $20-$30 for your 10 or 15 handguns. Then next time they ratchet it up to $5/handgun, what are people going to do? The precedent would have already been set with the 1st fee.
REMEMBER; they are going to confiscate noncompliance people's handguns. Once they do that, then the fear factor will come in, and people will pay the ransom going forward.
I'm telling you, it's coming. There is absolutely no way NYS doesn't capitalize on this.

How long have you lived in NY and you can't forsee this. Anything the politicians touch turns to shit in this state. The political parties should be renamed the haves and the have nots or the givers and takers. Look at the voter apathy in this state. Things have hit bottom and they keep digging. Politicians are pigs and we live downwind and down stream.

I don't *know* that NY taxes will be higher in 10 years than they are right now, but it's a pretty safe bet they won't be lower.....

Agree 100%. When have your taxes ever gone down? I mean seriously, it may not happen for another 5 or 10 years but you know they're going to start charging a fee for this. My guess, a flat fee for permit at first and then a "nominal" fee per gun after a few years which over time won't be that "nominal" anymore.
Ok but when have your taxes ever been 0. Raising something that is already something is easier to pass than a oh this is free but now we are going to charge.
I'm not saying that there isn' a chance they try to get money out of this, but there just as likely a chance that they realize this whole "project" isn't feasible and side line it just like the ammo purchasing part of the law
Doubt it, this doesn't require a database. It's easy to implement. Then they just add on a processing fee.
Mine were never zero but at one point in time there were no taxes and fees. Then the gov came along. Shit at one point in time the feds got their revenue from an import, export tax. People weren't taxed to support fed gov.

My convictions come from living in NYS for 60 years, and seeing that NYS has NEVER, EVER seen a fee they didn't like. REMEMBER; more and more producers are leaving the state, BUT, the welfare slugs aren't going anywhere. How do you suppose NYS will make up the lost "revenue" (I hate when the government uses that term!!) that goes with the producers? They will put additional fees on everything, and anything!
The fee will become feasible, it will be as easy as having you send in a check with your renewal. See, easy peasy!!
This provision isn't going anywhere, just like SAFE act. Not until the voters of NYS band together and start "draining" NYS' swamp. If that doesn't happen, the only thing that is certain is that this WILL eventually come with a fee. You can bet on that!

You want a link (I know you have seen this when I posted it before!) Every state but Vermont charges a renewal fee! And yes they would need to pass a law, Like that would be really hard in this State!
