An 18-year-old Texan has shot and killed 19 students and two teachers in the city of Uvalde, after first shooting his grandmother. He shared photos on social media of his guns and warned of the attack.
- Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that 14 students and one teacher were killed in the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde
- Abbott said that the gunman was 18-year-old Salvador Roma - but the name was later clarified as Salvador Ramos
- Ramos was shot and killed during the shooting at Robb Elementary School: he is believed to have been killed by law enforcement officers
- Ramos shot his grandmother before heading to the school, and was in a shootout with border patrol agents - one of whom was injured - before barricading himself inside the school buildings
- He posted photos of his guns on Instagram and, shortly before the shooting, he messaged a girl he vaguely knew hinting that he was planning an attack
- Ramos, equipped with a handgun and possibly a rifle, allegedly shot his grandmother, whose condition is not yet known, before entering the school and opening fire, Abbott said.
The shooting started around 11:32am.
Photos show a pickup truck that crashed outside the school, which, according to Abbott, Ramos abandoned before entering the school.
He was involved in a gunfight with border patrol agents who arrived on the scene. One of the agents was injured, but is expected to survive.

This. This is what's sick. Kids.....killing kids. We as a nation have fallen so far. Both the Buffalo shooting and this have similarities. Both in restrictive gun zones.
But this. 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. 2 days before the end of the school year. We all here know ( and were proven right in multiple ways with the buffalo shooting) the laws don't matter. We all know this isn't a gun problem. Ink
It's a mental health problem. 60 years ago we had systems in place to manage mental health issues for the most dangerous in society. We eliminated them. Society has changed, but rather than passing more useless gun legislation, how about we invest in the mental health side of this equation?
Do we really want to stop this or not? Because if we do, and lord knows I wish I could, spend the money to address those in society who are that I'll, that sick, that deranged that killing kids even crosses thier mind. Reopen state sponsored institutions and for fucks sake, fix it.
EDIT-I believe @GOPerfect even mentioned that crime or criminals he has encountered in his career can partially be attributed to mental health. Could this be the answer, or at least a step in the right direction to end this?

Mother of God. 18 children were just friggin murdered. I'm still trying to process that. It's so beyond every code of ethics and acceptable behavior. How the hell did we as a society ever get to the point where considering killing elementary students was a possible thought process. I have equal parts sadness and anger right now. I have a 2ne grader. I'm so fed up with all this social insanity..
