IMO ask for unrestricted. It's your right. At least if you ask for it and don't get it right away you know you tried to exercise a right. If you don't ask for it then it's your own fault for not trying.
Mine was pretty short for Erie county but I also specifically referenced wanting to carry for self defense and to protect my family.

Any update on this?
I know a guy who was going to be denied for leaving off an arrest for writing a bad check about 40 years ago. He forgot all about it. He happened to know the right people and they allowed him to “fix” his application. If it were anyone else they would have got an automatic denial for omitting it.

Just went to the interview this week. He said I may have to go before the judge for leaving it off and explain why. I guess I wont know for a couple of months.
The only other question of substance I can recall had to do with my divorce just to confirm it was in fact amicable (which it was).
Will be applying for my permit in February ( Monroe county rules-long story) The divorce thing for me is my only concern . Divorce was amicable, but she is also vindictive, and generally changes locations/ phone numbers/ addresses several times a year. Wondering if failure to contact her will result in a denial?
You will likely need her "blessings" in order to be approved. So the potential issues I can see are:
1) Can they get ahold of her? Will she call them back if they leave a message? They aren't going to chase her down.
2) Will she give the ok that she approves of you having a pistol license?

Yeah....not sure if any of that is going to happen. I fully expect to have to appeal a denial within 10 days of the decision. Hopefully the judge will see it for the truth, as it's my understanding that a denial for a permit in the past makes getting a permit anywhere in the future nearly impossible.
Certainly considering the divorce rate in the USA others who have been divorced have been approved. A judge must have heard it all in the past.

Interesting. I have all the paperwork printed up and ready for filling out. I have a similar situation as @PutnamCharlie does. I was arrested for a heinous crime ( ya know, assaulting a candy machine ) back when I was still a minor, it was dropped and I did a few hours of community service. I can’t remember the exact year or my age... obviously
. SO that part of the permit process that states you have to produce the court disposition for these things made me gasp. I called the town court and spoke with one of the clerks. She laughed a little when I told her it was sometime in the mid 80’s. She said “if they even have a record” it will be buried in their records attic or on microfilm and I should expect it could take a while to locate. I’m not sure I can narrow it down to help them because all I can say is it was probably between 85-87 as I recall. I have a buddy that said he would run a background check on me but will it be the same level the Rockland Country Sheriff runs? He said I could probably leave it off but wasn’t really sure. Reading this makes me wonder even more. So 6 months wait under normal circumstance ( which we are currently NOT IN ) and possibly a month or more added wait for this record to be found, if it even exists, and a bad election result...
So, did that ever come back on the Sheriff‘s background check for you PC or did you just offer it up and that is the only way they were able to find out?

The basic background check turned up nothing from what he said but now they run my prints. The finger prints are how they search for arrest's so it will take some time for that check considering how long ago it was. That's if they find anything at all. Either way I didn't want to take the chance that they could possibly find it and I didn't tell them about it. While I was there he told me about a girl who just did the interview.They found she left off a couple of arrests after running her prints. He followed that up with "she wont be getting a permit".

I was caught with a chalked ID when I was 17. I disclosed it on my application.
I also got in a bit of minor trouble on spring break in Florida when I was 19. I had to send away for copies of the disposition. I claimed every transgression I've had and I was given unrestricted on my first application.
All the advice I've ever been given was disclose anything you have ever been involved with other than like a minor traffic/parking ticket.

Ok. I’ll hope I can narrow it down enough for the town court. Maybe if my buddy runs a finger print check on me he can give me the date of arrest so it doesn’t take long to grab the records.
Just disclose everything. You know better. They aren’t looking to deny a permit over minor things. They are looking to deny for lying, misleading and leaving things out however. If you have to ask if you need to disclose something, you already know the answer.

Well that didn't work out as I had hoped. I just received a letter telling me I have to go to a hearing. The worst part is that it's at the end of November. Not sure what I'm in for so I was thinking about whether I should get an attorney or just ride it out solo.
Well I do wish you well, but you got yourself into this mess. You knew you had an arrest but decided to roll the dice and see if they would discover it. Well, they did. You're not dead in the water most likely, but the judge is likely not very happy with you.
The other thing I'd mention is end of November we may be in another Covid lockdown, so it may not even happen. Just think, if you were honest you would probably have your license by now.

I was honest at the interview I told them about it. I don't think they found anything. I just think he wants to know why I didn't put it on the forms. True about the covid thing.
You didn't disclose it on the signed forms. You signed off under penalty of law that your paperwork was true and accurate. That turned out not to be the case. I understand you came clean later, but that does not cancel out the previous issue.

Similar happened to my wife. She had to take a live fire course and send in proof of bolted down safe before Judge Reitz (RIP) would release her permit to her. Basically had to do the requirements for a full carry to get sportsperson.

He left a(n) arrest(s) off of his sworn statement. This is the problem. It's not a normal situation. He's lucky he didn't just get a letter saying "Denied" or worse, charged for filing a false instrument.
It seems like they are willing to work with him, but first he will have to work for it and play the game. They aren't just going to make it easy for him. I would put his chances at about 60%. If it were much less than that, they wouldn't waste their time calling him in front of the court.

Gotcha. I was just saying that the idea of having to write a letter and or meet a judge or take a course to get a permit is ridiculous in general. In the free world you're either a restricted person or your'e not.

I dont know this Rooney fellow but its undoubtedly about the omission on his app.
I'd like to think Rooney is as reasonable as Reitz was with my wife but I know nothing about him. My wifes deal was she had a dust up that wasn't her fault (ID theft victim in HS, some broad stole one of her checks and kited it, had to go to court to get it straightened out) but didn't put it on her app.
