I was at a gun store today and a husband/wife come in for her 1st pistol. He was pissed that the wife didn't want to get the same gun he had or at least a 380 like he carried. She wanted a small frame 40. Salesman explained that gun would hurt after a day at the range and maybe look at a 9. Then the husband started in with that a 9 was even more gun than the 40. That got taken care of right away.
Then she looked at a Glock 43 and then a 19. I left before she made a choice.
You would think he would be happy that she wants a edc pistol. You just want to say something but you know you shouldn't. Even the salesman didn't want to get between them.

I used to sell guns. These were the people I hated dealing with the most. Husband/wife when the wife was getting her first gun. Seemed like every man that came in with their wives were all EXPERTS.

Most of the women who bought guns from me really did their research prior to coming in. Very large and nasty conversations would erupt. The husband always knew best, always. So many of these guys would talk down to their wives about what size caliber they could handle. So many would push a little .380 over most others, they would say something like, that is a good fit for you. So many would pick out the gun they thought she should have.

I would show as many guns as possible before the husband would just settle on one for her or she walked away in disgust.

Yeah, I fear that stuff like that happens much too often. I remember a guy who brought his girl friend into my Dive store to sign her up for SCUBA lessons. He was a certified diver and wanted her to learn. First thing he said was that he would be accompanying her during any in water instruction, including her check out dives. LOL Yeah, sorry Pal, bug off!!!!

I know better than to do that with my girlfriend.
She did more research than most people before she went a bought her Glock 43.
When she realized she liked my Shield 9mm better, I didnt argue when she bought one.
Then when she decided she just looooooved my SP101, I said nothing when she bought one.
Now, shes looking at single action revolvers.........I will say nothing. ;)

I would not let the old lady get a small framed .40. No effing way. Ever look at the used guns over at Gander Mountain? They are all subcompact and micro .40's bought by people who are beginners and know nothing about firearms that end up trading them in at a loss due to recoil.

so "she" come in for 1st pistol .. #1 does she have her permit ... yes .. DUDE take her to a Range and let her rent and shoot and make up her mind what she likes ..try them on with a holster ... how does it fit .. I would have spoke up and also added i would like to see video while she out shoots you with the 40 or 45 .. Dude with the 380 .. LOL ... #2 .. no permit yet .. why hate this Fin state ... cant try one out .. just have to get the permit and hope for the best the damn gun shoots straight ..

My wife won't touch o e. I told her I'd buy her whatever she wanted and would pay for the whole process. Nope I do t need a gun. Well when you do it will be too late.

Last Christmas I gave my wife - who wants a permit/pistol - an IOU all expenses paid for her permit, 1st class and a pistol of her choice.
Still hasn't cashed it in yet

I have several handguns. Wife has pick of whichever one she wants. She went through three before choosing what she wanted. So I gave her that one. I purchased two more handguns during the search for what she wanted. I graciously acceded to the additional cost and the additional guns. Now I'm stuck with more guns. Just learned to live with it ;)

Uh...No I dont think so. .40 Caliber is meant for folks who dont complain about firearms being snappy.
Trust me I'm not a beginner and I carry a Kahr K40 and/or SP101 .357 depending on how I feel that day.

9MM has become the common talk amongst folks who buy handguns and therefore has become the go-to cartridge. I think more because that's what the gun dealers stock more of and therefore push first to the buyers. I couldn't care less what ballistics and testing states. I blaze my own trails and dont follow others.

Actually I prefer the .40 not becoming popular. Because of that, the ammo is cheap to buy. I was stocking up .40 rounds when no others could be had.

So the moral of the story is she is more of a gun man then he is?

I use the 40s as "38 specials" in my 10mm revolver. I also have a 1911 in 40 which is a blast to shoot.
