So what is the real truth about Handgun Hunting?

So NY says "Concealed Carry", but also allows for Handgun hunting. How are we supposed to figure out what is the right way to go about this? Concealed is Concealed from everything I have read. Others say you can open carry if Hunting - where are the real rules on this, because I cannot find anything.

I may or may not have concealed carried in Washington DC. I'm still alive and a free man. I've also open carried a long magazine that may or may not have been a full 30 or a 10/30 at ranges and or in the woods. I'm still alive and a free man.

I got no clue, I Googled it and found this response. I have been open carrying handguns in the North country for years and no one said a thing. Like others, in the passed I have seen it written that you could open carry as long as you had a valid permit and you were ACTIVELY hunting

That came from an old Suffolk County Police Pistol License Information Handbook.

Only the NY Penal Law 265 and 400 have any weight in a court of law.

I was REALLY not trying to stir up shit - I just want to know if it is legal or not to Non-concealed carry while hunting with a pistol. I have been searching all day and cannot find anything on the legality of it. I did email the Troopers as well as the DEC and am awaiting a response from either of them. NY law says concealed carry - PERIOD. Yet they allow us to pistol hunt. How in the hell are you going to conceal a TC in .223 or .308? I am looking for a law, or a precedent that explains the legalities of hunting with a Pistol in NY with a CCW permit.

That can write whatever they want on your permit. They can write hunting and target. They can write only on Sundays if wearing a red shirt. They can write only for employment. Ect. None of that means aanything. Penal law 400 is what grants you the type of licenses. Those are to have and carry concealed licenses.
