I understood the Gold Dot's had a lead core. When I heard people saying that they (Speer) uses a plating process to make the jackets all I could think of was the jackets where thin like the plating on .22 ammo.
No, that is definitely not the case. Actually what you see on .22LR is referred to as a copper "wash". Eh, the main thing I find useful about nickel plated cases is that I can tell my "serious" ammo apart from my range ammo at a glance. Beyond that I think it's a gimmick. Are you really going to be fondling all your brass and then sticking it back in storage long enough for it to corrode?Thank you for the pic's for comparision. I agree, the Federal Fusions are readily available at most places I go between the sporting goods counter at Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shop's. Another thing I like about the Speer Gold Dot's is the case's are nickel plated and offers better corrosion protection from fingerprints over regular brass case's.
