Did I say you said it was different than someone writing in a gun magazine?
Did I say you said it was different than someone writing in a gun magazine?
Read any issue of any gun or hunting magazine from the last 100 years. I bet you don't see a critical review. And I bet either the author, the publisher or both got something for writing / publishing the articles.
This is nothing new. Except now they call themselves "influencers" instead of "gun writers".
So this wasn't you sounding suprised that people give positive feedback in exchange for compensation?Soo this wasn't telling me to go read magazines?
That's not the point, many "influencers" aren't open about it.. there are many channels (big names) that will put out videos and imply or even out rig claims "look at this new product that i just happened to find, I figured ill give it a try..... omg it's amazing so wonderful "
But will not mention the product was given to them by the company for free to make a positive video on. And sometimes even paid for a "positive review"
So this wasn't you sounding suprised that people give positive feedback in exchange for compensation?
Guess again, kiddo!I'm guessing you can't comprehend what's actually happening here
Guess again, kiddo!
My guess... People say favorable things about a product in exchange for being compensated, but - and here's the kicker - they don't disclose that they were compensated. They might even threaten to say mean things (true or not) if they aren't compensated,
Am I close?
Holy crap! I didn't realize it was that serious!1!!1!!Close..
Some influencers are claiming to be doing unbiased "reviews" when in reality are doing paid advertising
Holy crap! I didn't realize it was that serious!1!!1!!
This has literally been happening since people started selling shit.
You mean this didn't start with influencers? Whew... Close one!Wait, you mean this didn't start with magazines?? Well damn ok never mind
Yeah, that’s not the point. Everyone knows that people have sponsors. Just like most gun magazines. I’ve read numerous review articles that might as well say “Paid for by *Insert brand name of product being reviewed*. These “influencers” have a legal right to notify their followers of their relationship with the company in which they are reviewing. Did the company send them an item for free to review? Did the “influencer” buy the product themselves. It seems that Modlite has some information regarding some people who have been a little shady with the way they go about doing business. As much as people want to bash Lucas Botkin since he does come across as weird and cultish to many people. But he does seem to stand by his morals when representing himself and his company. He touches on the subject a little bit here.If you're just figuring out that "gun media" types give favorable reviews in exchange for gifts and favors, you've been asleep for the last hundred years.
I don't think there is any legal responsibility for them to disclose any relationships. There is no contract, implied or otherwise, between youtubers and viewers.Yeah, that’s not the point. From their point of view, they're providing you with a product - an entertainment product. They're not compelled to provide an honest opinion.
I'm not watching that.Honestly they might have legal responsibility.
Not gun related but a good video that may explain how they could be breaking the law

As per the Federal Trade Commission...I don't think there is any legal responsibility for them to disclose any relationships. There is no contract, implied or otherwise, between youtubers and viewers.

So it depends if they are endorsing the product or if they are giving their opinion. Interesting. As per the Federal Trade Commission...
CFR 16 § 255.5 Disclosure of material connections.
“When there exists a connection between the endorser and the seller of the advertised product that might materially affect the weight or credibility of the endorsement (i.e., the connection is not reasonably expected by the audience), such connection must be fully disclosed.”

Maybe after the justice dept. finishes with the Biden Crime Family they'll have the time to chase down youtubers.
Excellent example of the intent of th OPHonestly they might have legal responsibility.

Excellent example of the intent of th OP

There’s a lot of companies out there that sell sweet equipment to everyone. Spiritus makes good stuff. Haley does it too. He was just talking about it in a post I was following.
Guy was being a little bit of a turd if that didn’t actually happen. But Haley himself went out of his way and even gave him his cell number, lol. I’m gonna make up some shit on a Micro Rig so I can get Haley’s personal cell number. lmaoThere’s a lot of companies out there that sell sweet equipment to everyone. Spiritus makes good stuff. Ive had one for twenty years, call it the medic crash cart. Insert dead creature, then a two person lift onto the atv rack.Picked up a Jet sled. Thought I would try using it for dragging a deer out of the woods this year. I also added some stainless steel eye bolts to attach a drag rope.
