You can also pick up a golden rod. They work well and it’s pretty much set it and forget it.Thought I'd give this a try for the gun safe. Apparently when it "fills up", you run it in an open space for a few hours and it "de-moisturizes". We'll see.

I have the golden rod, but my safe is in a high humidity area. Was just kinda doubling up. Are you saying it works unplugged, but you plug it in when the indicator reads "wet"?I have one of those and mine plugs in to an outlet to dry it out. It works okay but you have to remember to plug it in every few weeks. I may get a golden rod like will mentioned.
Yea you don't leave it plugged in. It gets really hot when it's drying out.I have the golden rod, but my safe is in a high humidity area. Was just kinda doubling up. Are you saying it works unplugged, but you plug it in when the indicator reads "wet"?
Thanks. Guess I misunderstood the directions. Rural education.Yea you don't leave it plugged in. It gets really hot when it's drying out.
I have one of those in my gun room. 4'x5½' "room". Works ok for what it is. During the summer I would have to plug it in once a week to dry it out.Thought I'd give this a try for the gun safe. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's a comfy chairI'm boring. I got a new chair for my gun room and a toaster.
My gun room is about 1500 sf so I'm kinda stuck with what it is.I have one of those in my gun room. 4'x5½' "room". Works ok for what it is. During the summer I would have to plug it in once a week to dry it out.
I eventually got a 70 pint/day dehumidifier and ran the drain hose into a condensate pump. Keeps my entire basement at 55% rh
I semi finished half of my 25x25 basement. Built a closet in one corner. 5½' wide and 4' deep. 7' ceiling. Two walls are 12" poured concrete. The other two I framed in and used double 5/8 fire rated sheetrock and also on the ceiling. Put in a 90 minute steel security door and a flat panel LED light. Peg board 3' down from the ceiling and 2 shelves on 3 walls. I can get probably 40 or so long guns and all the ammo, powder, primers and parts in there. My gun room is about 1500 sf so I'm kinda stuck with what it is.
Yup. Basements are where the humidity settles.I semi finished half of my 25x25 basement. Built a closet in one corner. 5½' wide and 4' deep. 7' ceiling. Two walls are 12" poured concrete. Problem is that the basement gets stupid humid in the summer, 85 - 90% r h. Hence the dehumidifier and pump.
Lakeshore is rural? Thanks. Guess I misunderstood the directions. Rural education.
I didn't grow up in this community of scholars.Lakeshore is rural?
I never understood that - Why do people place their rifle in a case that way ? If you set it down hard with the case closed, all the force gets applied to the scope. Doesn't it make more sense to put the gun into the case so that the scope is on top when you are carrying it ? This is not a criticism, just a honest question.
Like @PutnamCharlie said, as long as you have a good quality mount and it is installed correctly, it’s not going anywhere. Badger Ordnance, ADM, Geissle, Bobro, Scalarworks, Unity Tactical, Reptilia Corp, Larue…are some that make solid mounts.I know when I close my case the top foam pretty much pin's the whole thing in so tight it doesn't move. Also most good scopes are drop tested with no protection so I feel it's pretty safe.

Soft case, yes. If the scope suffers any kind of serious impact I'm dropping that case off a roof. That foam snuggles it tight.I never understood that - Why do people place their rifle in a case that way ? If you set it down hard with the case closed, all the force gets applied to the scope. I’d also imagine the foam is snug and supports the gun so a rather small amount of force gets applied to the scope. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I would think.Soft case, yes. If the scope suffers any kind of serious impact I'm dropping that case off a roof. That foam snuggles it tight.
Not a Pelican. Off brand. Seagull.Love it!!
Pelican? Off Brand?
Another nice cheap trick to do to your foam is go pick yourself up like 2 cans of spray flex seal. Spray all the surfaces of the foam with a few coats. It helps keep all the foam together much nicer and retains its shape for much longer, especially the kind that is precut pluck foam like you have. The precut foam has a tendency to rip apart and wear much faster.
Yeah, kinda saw that coming. I already have a can of clear. May make a couple changes before I seal it.Another nice cheap trick to do to your foam is go pick yourself up like 2 cans of spray flex seal. Spray all the surfaces of the foam with a few coats.
