This is good news. I have plans to buy a lot for/after the holidays. I need to stock up on 223/40 and I have plans to buy a 308 bolt gun. We'll see how this all plays out, lol.
Curious as to how low do you guys think these prices are going to drop. What in your opinion, are good prices for some of these calibers?

I would like to see 5.56/223 go back down. I think it's been artificially high for sometime now. I think it should be around 21 cent for 55gr blasting, 26-28 cent for 62gr green tip and 30+ cent for specialty rounds. I don't mind reloading for this caliber but I think the factory ammo is way over priced. 9mm is pretty good right now. I would like to see 40 and 45 creep down about 5-10 cents a round but that just might be wishful thinking.
Considering I reload for just about everything I hope components start coming back and prices go back to normal. I'm in desperate need of primers and wouldn't mind increasing my powder to 30+ lbs. How to sneak that past the wife is another story.

Prices may go down a little, but don't expect to find 5.56/.223 for $4 a box, Not going to happen unless Trump opens up imports from Russia again. I remember when 54R was under $.05 a round, it's near $.50 now. We also have to keep in mind if the economy picks up to fast there will be shortages of raw metals leading to higher prices, like the mid to late 2000's. Also, inflation may hit a little faster/harder making the US dollar weaker and driving prices up. I think the only real positive thing we can look to in the short term is availability of ammo. I have posted this idea a few times already that we could use a section just on user supplied ammo/firearm prices from all over NY (and PA??) to help everyone find the best deals. Several years ago Gunner posted prices for 1,600rnd plastic ammo cans of CCI MINI-MAG's for around $109 at Wallyworld. It was at the time a freaking good deal. That afternoon i went to several stores and stocked up! Hey Nirvana, if you are reading this think about it some.

I dont expect to see factory ammo prices drop too much. I see 223 being around 30 cents a round and hopefully reloading supplies being more available.
I see the spread between reloading and purchasing factory widening though. As factory becomes more readily available the hoarding mentality dies off, people start adding the cost of time into their calculations, and poweders and primers become priced accordingly.

I hadn't bought 54r in a while, but at my gun store a few days ago I was shocked how expensive it got.

If you don't mind "re-manufactured", you can stock up on .223 at 28.5 cents/round: 100,000 ROUNDS OF 223/5.56

Right now, I try to pay about .30-.32/rd for .40sw. If it dropped below that to like, .25-.28/rd, I'd be happy(happier). I'd always welcome more, lol. I'm no expert in economics or supply/demand, so I don't know if it will drop, so as long as it doesn't go up, I'd settle for that.
It'll just be nice to hopefully have a stable supply for once! Place I get most of my ammo isn't all that much higher than the above mentioned prices, well then I gotta factor shipping I suppose. The range I go to sells ammo for a decent price. Good enough that I don't feel a need to bring in ammo from elswhere.

Yep, it seemed like cheap 7.562X54R (R=rimmed) would last forever or until it ran out which may have been the day after forever. Then Obama rekindled the Cold War all by himself and trade with Russia in such things was not so good or so I understand that to have been the cause. As for the 7.62x54, I was very lucky not to far back, a member at the place that shall not be mentioned, was selling a bunch of it and I snagged all of it up. I can't remember what I paid, I just remember that I was very happy.
As for the here and now, I just continue to shop ads, best price usually wins with me. I do a bit of shopping on line as well and when I can make it to my Mom's house, I always go shopping there.
I did see in Cabelas ad for the next couple of weeks, they have some pretty good prices coming up. Some of the deals are day specific so you gotta look at that.

What we want is Chinese ammo. I am around long enough to remember when you could buy it, and I still have a stash of Chinese .308.
Those fun loving guys in Beijing can turn out 7.62x39 and 5.56 and 5 cents a round, and it will be good stuff. Their military industrial complex does not crank out crap. Case in point:
