I lettem warm up completely.....................I have 12 cars and trucks and probably 25 V8 engines in storage I am a heavy user of fossil fuels.....I buy a 55 gallon drum of racing fuel each year to pollute as much as possible. I rebuild engines for my racing purposes.......

I just traded this car in on a Mach 1.............I warmed up this big engine twice, during the many winters in storage......no fogging necessary. Old wives tales.

Was working in aircraft maintenance. Customer had a complete rebuild to manufacturer Spec using all new parts of a Lycoming 0-320.
He never flew his airplane but did come to the airport once a week religiously to start and run his new engine. Never even taxied it. I explained it was the worst thing he could do. He did not heed my warnings. When it came time for his annual inspection two cylinders failed the leak down procedure horribly. Staking the valves would not seat them. Explained to the customer that his shiny new engine failed inspection. He said IMPOSSIBLE! Pulled the two cylinders and on top of the valve issue found the camshaft lobes to be severely pitted. Yup, corrosion.
Folow Grimscale's advice. Pickle the engine or use it running to full operating Temp. Not just for a minute or two either.

Oldest Son has been building some wicked 351W's to replace 5.0's with.
My old Truck runs a 300 I-6 that's as smooth and dependable as the day it was made...no power house, but it's durable.

Interesting how the left proposed cash for clunkers in order to prop up car manufacturers and modernize the fleet in the US.

And then they hold gun buy backs, which is essentially "cash for clunkers" for guns. And the do that to hurt the gun industry and get the modern guns "off the streets".

It's like they can't think more than 3 words past the headline LOL.

Lycomings are noted for eating camshafts from corrosion, and you're right: either run it the way is was designed to, or fog it and leave it be.
BMW Motorcycle Dealer admonished me: "If you can't ride it at least ten miles the don't ride it at all, and it was meant to run at 5,000 RPM's!
Getting the Oil hot and ALL the metal the same drives moisture out, that moisture creates acids that destroy metal...Brakes are another one: Brake pads that aren't good & toasty will hold moisture causing rust and delamination...I'd take a vehicle with 100K of Highway mileage over one with 50K that was only driven a few miles at a time.

That is what I like about most modern trucks. They have idle hour counters, drive hour counters, and then total hours.

Mileage is useless without hours.

Best example is government auctions. You see cars/trucks with 15k miles, but 8000 hours of run time. Yeah, the mileage is low, but the engine and other parts are practically junk.

I am nearly 76, and ever since I was aware of cars, I hung around garages in the 60's on, watching and learning.......lots of hot rodding and racing...late bloomer James Dean types and Fonzie types back then, cigs hanging out of their mouths...Drag Racing at York Pa..big names..........by the way all letting me hang around the shops, and learn great stuff............. I never in all that time, to date.......... have I ever become aware of anyone fogging an engine..........a.hydraulic lockup is what you are begging for. Smokey Yunick is a God.

As a mechanic during college years, the garages I worked in made a fortune off GM cams, lifters and timing chains...............I did plenty of them...283's, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs...my drag race and road race engines I built for my racing efforts, were never fogged in storage.

Roadworthy Rescues which is a great Motor Trend Show...he gets engines started that have sat for decades......

If I lived along the gulf coast/humid areas .............they drivem all year around, so no fogging.

YES, 406'S/427's FE's galore...I have 4 FE's now.

My late friend John L, put a 427 into his '58 ford and drove 140 all the time on interstates....body would rise up due to aero..he put a tunnel port 427 into his '68 Torino GT fastback........he once split a C-6 from stem to stern, somehow on a shift.
My late friend Hezzie won a new Ford 406 engine at a car show in Detroit.. PRESENTED BY AK MILLER!!............that engine was once in the 66 Fairlane GT I own...a hopped up 390 is in there now.
My old 429 Galaxie 4 speed two door would pass anything but he gas stations and my cousins 70 429 Cyclone GT............he could do a Sylvan Beach-Rome Run in under 15 minutes.......

I was a highway engineer, but a dedicated racer ever since I saw Jim Clark at the Glen in'64......
I am doing SCCA track nites in America with my Mach 1 this coming year and a '69 Mustang Fastback that is going to the track as a 69 Trans-Am replicar......351 Cleveland will be in there.....

Yes old age and a history can bring continued insanity.........don't make me tell you about my horse jumping days, or Trap Shooting indenture.

So you`re one of those, who likes to use other peoples tax funds to buy things without even asking them what the tax fund is being used for? Well, thats what your BOZO president did with cash for clunkers. He used THE PEOPLES TAX FUNDS to pay for it. So through taxation, that you pay in to, YOU, bought AND paid for someone else`s junk car to be crushed.

All this cash for clunkers did, was ruin it for the new young drivers to be able to afford to buy a really cheap car to start their life with. It also removed much needed used parts from the used market that people could have bought to keep their old car running, because alot of people couldn`t afford a new car, or a decent used one.

So shameful how much "dumb" lives and breathes around us.

I was at my local junkyard this past summer, hot as frig, and there was some young athletic build chick that was wearing volleyball shorts, and a cutoff sleeveless shirt under a car yanking some parts. I had to stop and "people watch" for a moment in that direction...

This stuff right here is why I don't want a hybrid nor an EV.

I want a conventional truck with a conventional oil burner.

Everyplace I read, even dumb places like Consumer Reports even touts EVs and Hybrids as unreliable... yet like up to a year ago they were saying EVs and Hybrids are "minimal maintenance" and "lower cost to own" than a conventional rig.

Why, have the tables turned?

Yet, Cummins is getting shafted up the arse...

Sorry, but if need be, I'll buy a Class 8 rig and drive that around to get groceries.
