not sure, we'll find out when i get BG's lower in my hands. it'll probably be a 1:9 but 55gr will definitely become its main food. don't know if i would ever load for it so m193 spec is probably gonna be what i start stocking for it.
1:9 will stabilze the 64gr GSDs and that is some nice defensive ammo. But for informal target shooting out to 300 yards the 55gr shoots flattest of the three. IMI makes really good ammo too, their M193 is superior to LC's factory seconds XM193.
The 77gr OTM stuff is pretty accurate though too.
5 shot group, I measured that at just under 2". And thats with a Red Dot. I'd like to see what a good shooter with a scope could do with this stuff.

at the moment i know its gonna be getting a red-dot and built for reliability. i've sort of jumped between ideas of what i want for it but as i got closer i've started to narrow it down. thinking 14.5 pinned.

Get the Gold Dots if you win dude. They have much better terminal ballistics and a 1x9 twist is more than enough to stabilize them.
Not only do they expand, they penetrate deep unlike bullets like the M193 that fragment.

Maybe he just wants target ammo. But the Gold Dots 223s shoot very well also.
@Exonautic, why bother with a 1-9 twist in the first place? 1-7 is pretty standard now and most will still shoot 55gr pills well. My 1-7 loves 55gr ammo! 1-8 twist is the most versatile.
I'm not entering to win, but I want to say thanks for doing this. It's pretty awesome that we have great members on this forum.

My thinking is that this will never be a target rifle. I just find 1:7 to be kinda pointless for my intent with this rifle. 1:9 seems to be a good spot to be able to effectively run both m193 and m855 rounds without issue which is what i intend to put through it. If I find a good barrel i like and its 1:7 ill pick it up, but its not going to be a selling point for the barrel.
My point is a 1:7 barrel will let you shoot any surplus while giving you the flexibility to shoot the heavier OTMS should you ever wish. The only thing you lose out on is the ability to shoot the the lightweight varmint screamers. I doubt there is hardly any price difference between the twist rates, other than that cheap budget barrels are typically 1:9. But companies like Faxon and Ballistic Advantage offer good barrels at good prices, and both offer 1:7 twists throughout their line ups. Do as you wish but I think it's better to maximise your versatility. Unless you wanted to pop a bunch of varmints, the 1:9 is best for that.
Suprised that I'm not seeing more votes for the Gold Dots given I've never seen it in stores and what with NYS shipping issues.

Let's just say that most people have no clue about anything in regards to ammo. The ones who chose the M193 think it's better because it's military and the ones that chose the 77 think it's better because the number is higher. Nevermind the various tests out there.

Look at the chart above. The 1x7 covers all the way down to 55 gr.
I shoot 52 grain bullets out of my 1-6 twist barrel with good accuracy.
That's a little punitive don't you think? Could be as simple as with 55gr being the most popular weight that's what everyone is zeroed for and therefore wish to stuck with.

I choose m193 because its the most common ammo you can find at a decent price. If I wanted an ar for pinholes at 200-400 than I'd be firing 77 gr rounds that i load myself. Frankly im okay with minute of man at 400 yards. The nice looking targets is what my bolt gun is for.

I'm not zeroing in on anyone here in particular. My statement is based on what I've seen here in this forum in general. Many stock up on green tips and think it's the best thing going because the military uses it. Many pick the highest grain no matter what the caliber without really knowing why. Then when you show tests on performance, they call you a know it all, fight the tests because of the the source, or say statements like it'll shoot you just as dead. Some get angry because you shot down their choice.
Such is life. This forum is for posting funny pictures rather than learning. It's frustrating sometimes.

The IMI 77gr OTMs are quite accurate though. Good terminal performance on soft targets too, even out to 600 meters.
