If things go south we have their money. They have our notes. If we repudiate the debt we keep their money and they use the notes as wallpaper. An extreme move but similar to the old bank loan problem. If you owe the bank $10,000 and you can't pay that's your problem. If you owe them $500 million and can't pay it's the bank's problem lol.Bankrupt them? You don't realize that they hold notes for most of the US's debt?
Taiwan has the largest high end chip factory in the world. Supposedly there are plans to build a similar one here in the US but these take plenty of capital and time (years) to manufacture.
Some scenarios see the taiwanese destroying the factory before china can get their hands on it. If that happens it will plunge the world into a recession since so many chips that go into so many products are made there.
The ukraine invasion hasn't really disrupted the world's economy. A chinese invasion of taiwand probably would. All I can say is if you are planning a purchase in the next year or two of anything that requires a high end chip - you might want to make it sooner rather than later. You don't want to experience the supply chain backlogs when the primary source of high end chips goes offline.
It depends who you ask.Taiwan is China
It depends who you ask.
The United states was not recognized until we made sure the British got the memo.
What Is Taiwan’s Legal Status According to International Law, Japan, and the US? - The News Lens International Edition
Legally, Taiwan is a piece of territory that was "never returned" properly. What roles have Japan and the United States played historically?international.thenewslens.com
Who are you asking? The US, China, and Taiwan do not recognize Taiwan as an independent state.
Your Source:
According to the current Constitution, the definition of ROC territories still includes mainland China. From the international law standpoint, Taiwan and Beijing are still maintaining the relationship of “one country, two governments.” James Crawford, the author of The Creation of States in International Law, also denied Taiwan as an independent country in his book as Taiwan has never explicitly claimed independence.
"One country, two systems" is a constitutional principle of the People's Republic of China (PRC) describing the governance of the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
The constitutional principle was formulated in the early 1980s during negotiations over Hong Kong between China and the United Kingdom. It provided that there would be only one China, but that these regions could retain their own economic and administrative systems, while the rest of Mainland China uses the socialism with Chinese characteristics system. Under the principle, each of the two regions could continue to have its own governmental system, legal, economic and financial affairs, including trade relations with foreign countries, all of which are independent from those of the Mainland. The PRC has also proposed to apply the principle in the unification it aims for with Taiwan.
Does one country, two systems apply to Taiwan?
It both upholds China's state sovereignty and takes into full account the specific conditions of Taiwan. According to the concept of "one country, two systems", two systems will be practiced within the sovereign state of the People's Republic of China.
Does the US recognize Taiwan independence?
In keeping with its China policy, the U.S. does not support de jure Taiwan independence, but it does support Taiwan's membership in appropriate international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the Asian Development Bank, where statehood is not a ...

Your dog is a very astute student of politics.Incompetents? as Einstein once said "there is no unit of measurement, for this level of stupidity"
Taiwain is China.Taiwan has their own military and defense and civilian readiness plans to fight any Chinese take over or sovereignty claims.
Taiwan is not Chinese nor two systems anymore.
And with sufficient inflation (that we control) those notes won't be worth the paper they're printed on.Bankrupt them? You don't realize that they hold notes for most of the US's debt?
That would be encouraging if we stopped borrowing money from them. And with sufficient inflation (that we control) those notes won't be worth the paper they're printed on.
We'll borrow as much as they'll lend. That would be encouraging if we stopped borrowing money from them.
You may be right. But the timing is key. We'll borrow as much as they'll lend.
We have no intention of paying it back long term.
The SVB collapse was basically because they tied too many of their assets up in government bonds, and inflation rose higher than the interest was paying on those.
Same thing will happen to China.
Our economy is going go burn to the ground sooner or later, but we'll take the whole world with us.
ok. Just show me the documents where they declared Independence from the mainlandTaiwan has their own military and defense and civilian readiness plans to fight any Chinese take over or sovereignty claims.

There is only one China at the moment. China has been a single country since before WWII.
The question is, is it run by the Chinese government we allied with to fight the Japanese in WWII that is currently based in Taiwain, or is it run by the communist rebels in Beijing.
This is very much like the situation that existed in the US during between 1861 and 1865.
Imagine if that war had settled into some stalemate for half a century, where the south refused to surrender, and the north refused to recognize them.
That's what the Taiwain situation looks like.
Our Weapons and Munitions supplies are down, and what is being made is going to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative... wonder what the "Big Guy's" commission is on that deal?May as well create a similar thread for this topic.

New US export rules limit chip sales to china:
U.S. aims to hobble China's chip industry with sweeping new export rules
The rules could force American and foreign companies that use U.S. technology to cut off support for some of China's leading factories and chip designers.www.reuters.com
So we limit critical chip sales to China, which forces them to contemplate moving sooner rather than later. Our near term ability to supply Taiwan with weapons is limited, which also provides an incentive to act now. Will they do it?
You mean the one where the Mainland revolted against the nationalists ?ok. Just show me the documents where they declared Independence from the mainland
No, neither decared independence, because *both* claim to be *the* China. Taiwan's claim is the earlier one.Its run by both with an understanding that they belong to China. They never declared their Independence of China.
The point of the US backing Taiwan is because of the massive investments of Wall st there, the control of the chip market. The sea lanes
Now if the US actually told the fucking truth and said this is a national security issue for the the US (Like Russia did) That We allowed wall st to source out our chip industry for massive profits even though it endangered the US , They might have something. But dont try to sell me this nationalist red white and blue democracy/Independence bullshit . Im a big kid now. Seems clear our national security is threatened because Wall st was allowed to out source production to China. Wall st investments are at risk too. the CNN version that Taiwan is an independent country is nonsense . We have US troops in Taiwan against the wishes of the Chinese government, and were sending more , US troops on Chinese soil.
Would the US tolerate that? China has a legitimate gripe. and I hate to side with the commie bastards.
When did they separate ?Well I guess they have irreconcilable differences then. I see them as a separatist state , you see them as an independent nation.
When they refused to reunify ?When did they separate ?
To reunify they would have to already be separate. When they refused to reunify ?
ok. Just show me the documents where they declared Independence from the mainland
To reunify they would have to already be separate.
So that can obviously not be when they separated.
