They are such a world power that they are currently buying arms and ammunition from *North Korea*.
They've lost half their black sea fleet, including the flagship, in a land war, against a country with no navy. That honestly makes their showing in the Russo-Japanese war not look quite so bad.
Textbooks will be written about this war, and they are not going to look kindly on the Russian showing in it LOL.
*if* Nato got involved, it's not hyperbole to suggest they would destroy every Russian vehicle in Ukraine in a week. The only reason NATO doesn't "eat it up and spit it out" is that they don't want to have to deal with the power vacuum afterwards.
That was the lesson we learned from Iraq, it doesn't matter if you can blitz their entire military in a week, the hard part is dealing with the mess afterwards, and *nobody* wants to have to clean up the disaster that is Russia.
Russia's constant posturing that NATO is a threat to them is equivalent to the ravings of the homeless guy living in the woods near the army base. They're not a threat, and the only reason they don't remove him, is that then they'd have to take care of him LOL.

Admittedly they could beat Ukraine if they had no assistance.
But, to be fair, the sort of assistance NATO is supplying Ukraine kinda reminds me of what the sponsors in hunger games provide the contestants.
It's not *real* aid to help them win, it's more like "we like this show, and don't want it to end yet".
The west is literally toying with Russia and they are using Ukraine and the Ukranians as the game pieces.
Honestly, I find it disgusting. I don't think we should abandon Ukraine to the Russians. Their ambitions needed to be stopped a long time ago.
What's disgusting is that we *didn’t* just end it quickly.
We could have absolutely ended the entire Russian military anytime we wanted, with minimal casualties. Picture the air component of Desert Storm, but played where that stuff was all staged and designed to work, not where it was hastily relocated thousands of miles away to.
Literally a week, and Russia wouldn't have anything more sophisticated than a tricycle west of Moscow.
Honestly, I think there are only 2 reasons we haven't.
One is that we're afraid Ukraine or Poland would rush in and take the place in the vacuum, and we'd be stuck with that mess.
The other is that would end the largest money laundering operation the world has ever seen.

The Russian GDP is smaller than France, it's half the size of Germany. There are 3 US *states* each with a larger GDP than Russia. So, no way are they an economic superpower. It's hard to be any other sort of superpower without an economy to drive it.
They did loot all of the Ukranian weapons after the fall of the Soviet union, I'll give you that. Dumbest move the Ukranians ever made giving them up. Imagine what things would look like today if they hadn't LOL.
Their military is getting it's ass handed to it by a backwater like Ukraine using NATO's scrap parts.
A super power can project military force anywhere on earth. Russia is struggling 100 miles from their own border.

There are at least half a dozen countries with a better claim of "superpower" than Russia, and only one that actually meets any of the requirements (with one working on it).
As for NATO cutting and running, you don't seem to understand the scale of the issue. The casualty ratio would be such that NATO would barely notice.
It would literally make Desert Storm look like an evenly matched fight.
And I'll remind you Afghanistan was a vibrant country before the *Soviets* went in in the 80s. The US misadventure there for the last 2 decades just proves you can't build a nation without having the balls to really eliminate the old power structures.

We may have failed to rebuild Afghanistan, but at least life for a lot of Afghans was better when we were there than after we left.
If you remember, one of the major complaints was that we *left too many friends behind*.

Placing economic sanctions on a small country and blame problems it creates on its leadership is a tired old trick. Not to mention expenditures they need to have on defense against looming aggression.
