How is Russia to know which country is flying the F16s out of those airfields that is attacking them? They won't. They will have to treat them all as hostile and they will have to attack their origination airfields.

With everything thats going on, British and French talking about ground troops, US recon flights into the war zone, Putin talking Nukes,US supplied weapons and advisors, foreign mercenaries, I can appreciate the concern, I think we are closer to war than the Cuban missile crisis. Personally, I dont think NATO is anywhere near ready to take on the Russians on the ground in Ukraine, Trump was bitching about how they were supposed to put 3% of thier GDP into the military and they didn't do it , We were doing all the spending, they were depending on aid from the US , They knew the US would back them 100% NATO or not , they didn't put the money into their defense forces and they are far weaker than they appear on paper.
The situation in Ukraine is now becoming critical , The west now realizes Ukraine is lost if they cant stop the Russians ,They either lose all of the Ukraine or just half its up to them That 60 billion in aid the US is withholding isnt going to do it. The west is going to have to get a peace agreement on any terms if they want to salvage Ukraine. That probably means getting rid of Zelensky. I thought march was going to be the time they did , but maybe not.

I believe that Zelensky was told to make peace with Russia even if it means conceding Ukraine territory, He told the US to go fuck themselves , no way he was going to concede anything , he was going to fight. So the US is withholding aid . and one way or another he is going to have to concede parts of Ukraine. In order to have a negotiated settlement, the Russians have to surrender or zelensky must be replaced. Im betting the latter.
Sooner or later, zelensky will be probably taken out by a lucky ""Russian"" tomahawk missile Or information may be leaked to the Russians behind the scenes . A new leader will take his place that is willing to make a deal,( "" A traitor"") and the US and NATO can save face and avoid a third world war .I think we are going to hear a lot more about peace talks this spring.

The bottom line is that the missiles in Cuba were a major escalation in what was a balanced power relationship.
Russia, and some on this forum, seem to be unwilling to acknowledge that the relationship between NATO and Russia is so massively unbalanced that any difference Ukraine could make is irrelevant.
Think of it this way. You have a gang standoff with 5 guys on each side, and one side is trying to bring in #6, that's going to completely change the dynamic of the situation.
But, if it's 5 guys on one side and 25 on the other, bringing in #26 doesn't matter much.

If Ukraine "became" part of NATO, why wouldn't Russia view that as a nuclear threat 200 miles from their capital?
If Ukraine is NATO, they would almost assuredly house B61 tactical bombs and F35s at a minimum.
And if what you say is true NATO would curb stomp Russia, wouldnt Russia then and justly be concerned to have that force a mere 200 miles from their capital by land?
