If it came from Russia, it must be so. Right? Also reported:
All of the troops on the Russian side are made up from NCO's and re-enlisted. Conscripts and military cadets are not taking part in this operation.

The advancing side should have higher casualties, but they are doing better then Ukrainians. It's not a cake walk, but it's not a disaster either.
When the Russians get into full "Fuck it!" mode, and bring in their bombers, then it will be an absolute disaster for Ukraine.Depends how you define a disaster. As an absolute it's not a disaster, they didn't get routed and tossed out. As they should perform given their advantages I'd say it's a borderline disaster.

I bet that things aren't going the way Putin thought they would, both economically with the global sanctions and militarily with the resistance the Ukrainians are putting up.
Just heard that Russia "inherited" their seat on the UN Security Council from the USSR in 1991 and it was never voted on. There may be a move to unseat Russia.
Putin said he would not attack. Sadam bragged about "having" WMD's. When leaders lie. people die.Putin was well aware of Afghanistan and two Chechen wars. I doubt he expected this to be bloodless. Ukraine is a big country, that was well known.

No way this can work.
Effort under way to challenge Russia’s right to seat on UN security council
In wake of Ukraine invasion, diplomats consider if Russia can be removed as one of five permanent security council memberswww.theguardian.com
But he also asked Guterres to distribute to the security council the legal memos written by UN legal counsel dated 19 December 1991 that the Russian Federation be permitted to join the security council as the successor to the Soviet Union. Ukraine claims the constituent republics of the USSR declared in 1991 that the Soviet Union ceased to exist, and with it should have gone the legal right of any of those entities, including Russia, to sit on the council. No decision to permit Russia to the security council was ever put to the General Assembly. The UN charter was never amended after the USSR broke up. It still references the Soviet Union, and not Russia, as one of the permanent members of the UN security council.
Why aren't all former members of the Soviet Union considered legal successors to the seat previously held by the Soviet Union? They were all member states of that "union?"Russia is the legal successor of the Soviet Union and all of its treaties. There are always far fetched attempts, this doesn't have any chance of succeeding especially after 31 years.
That's not looking good for the Russians.Update:
There were casualties report in recent briefing by Gen. Konashenkov.
On the Ukrainian side:
2870 killed
3700 wounded
572 surrendered
On the Russian side:
498 killed
1597 wounded
Nice, replace Russia with Ukraine as the permanent member LOL.Why aren't all former members of the Soviet Union considered legal successors to the seat previously held by the Soviet Union? They were all member states of that "union?"

Not exactly. Just asking why all of the former "Soviet" republics are not given the same consideration as Russia. Perhaps they should all have had a share of the seat, through a rotation, that was previously held by the USSR. Or, perhaps, none of the former Soviet republics are legally heirs to the seat held by the USSR.Nice, replace Russia with Ukraine as the permanent member LOL.
Napolean once said, ""Morale is to fighting, as Three is to one""That's not looking good for the Russians.
This isn't an evenly motivated battle.
The Ukranians are fighting for their existance as an independent people. The Russians are fighting for what exactly ?
Pretty sure the Ukrainians are way more than 5x as motivated, so a 5x casually ratio really favors them heavily.
If they keep up those numbers the Russians will have to give up long before the Ukrainians.
Probably a good move.U.S. delays ICBM test-launch in bid to de-escalate Russia nuclear tensions
The U.S. military said on Wednesday it will postpone a scheduled test launch of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, in a bid to lower soaring tensions after Russia announced it was putting its nuclear forces on high alert.www.reuters.com
Seriously. Can you imagine some dumbass giving the go ahead for that test, and the Russians seeing it go up on radar?Probably a good move.
Cool!In a remote chance this UN scheme takes place, Russia can claim that Soviet Union wasn't legally dissolved.
According to Soviet Constitution, each Soviet Republic could vote itself out, but 4 republics can't just meet and disolve the country, which is what happened.
And the winner for the Bad Idea of the Year goes to..... anyone in the military that was willing to proceed with such a launch at this time.U.S. delays ICBM test-launch in bid to de-escalate Russia nuclear tensions
