I think Germany needs a litle guidance. They have a tendancy to overdo. I am going to write to them tomorrow. Can't hurt. Last time German tanks rolled into Ukraine, they killed half of my family. Our family name is listed in the Holocaust museum in Washington.
Most people have no idea about all the logistics in a tank operation like this.
The last time I went the NTC (National Training Center) was in 2001. It was a decent sized training operation. In 27 days, more than 1.5 million gallons of fuel was used. That is just in a training mode. Fuel usage is much higher in a real world situation.

The question is, did they make that mistake all on their own, or were they led there like Saddam was..
I think they largely expected to make significant gains with minimal resistance and even some support from locals. Their initial attempt to storm kyiv is proof that was their strategy it wasn't a feint. They had plane loads of paratroopers shot down over kyiv for crying out loud.
IMO if it wasn't for a massive delivery of NATO stingers, javelins, panzerfausts etc that Ukraine would have gotten pushed back and would have been demoralized and in disarray. The ridiculous amount of man portable AT and AA decimated the Russian strategy and supply lines. The Russians were suffering far heavier losses than expected and their supply lines collapsed. They had no choice but to withdraw regroup, refit and mobilize additional forces. Now we are here with probably 100x more deaths and destruction and we're on the verge of ww3.
And in relation to my post I am sympathetic to the Ukrainian people. I really am.
I believe the real war is getting ready to begin.

Off the top of my head just the past month if I'm recalling correctly the US has committed to giving Ukraine

Reports are coming in of very unusual military movements. Trains full of armor heading to the coast. Etc very ominous developments all happening. I watch this YouTube channel and it's great, I'll give it a recommend.

Considering that they overthrew the Ukrainian government, then armed them to the teeth for the last eight years , then crossed a well known, well established, red line, outlined in the Maiden agreement which would knowingly lead to war , Useing Ukraine as a money laundering operation and conducting illegal bio lab experiments in which they knew all evidence would be destroyed, I lean toward the ""lead to war"" theory.
The why is because Russia did not want to give up her sovereignty to join the brotherhood of globalism
I think it's every bit as much about maintaining sovereignty as it is a buffer for an ever incrementally closing in NATO.
If the Warsaw pact was taking over Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, central America and was moving up towards Mexico, what do you think the US would do? We would probably invade Mexico to get it first to give us a buffer zone.

We are not stupid enough to want to occupy Mexico. That would just be a massive money pit.
If Russia were successful in occupying Ukraine at this point it would bankrupt them.

Its really a beautiful cover story for a build up of military equipment without anyone asking questions
I dont believe Russia will use nukes unless her territory is under attack and she is losing . If she knows she cant win then shes taking everybody with her.
the Russians claim 3000 tanks destroyed, if its anywhere close to being true, the Ukrainians are out of tanks or close to it. thats why she is begging the west for heavy tanks , She doesn't have enough for an offensive.
However those modern tanks are going to be met with a sky full of drones and heavy artillery land mines, and kornet antitank missiles. there will be losses unless NATO goes all in. The Russians will make them a special project.

NATO is being very careful not to let Ukraine get too much offensive capability.
They're all about giving Ukraine the ability to grind the Russian military into dust on their territory, but they do not want them attacking into Russia at all.
This is classic western stupidity, it's what lost us every war we've ever lost.
Either you fight to win, or you do not fight.
We fought to stalemate in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan and look what happened. We fight until we get bored, because we refuse to win.

And due to the Russian doctrine, I do not think this will make much difference.
We won't provide the intelligence or support for that. Our government wants to degrade the military capacity of Russia and we'll sacrifice as many Ukrainian lives as possible to accomplish this. Hell the ghouls in Washington probably won't mind if both armies are effectively destroyed as a result.

I'm not sure that this is a complete assessment with regards to "western stupidity."
From an American warfighter's stanpoint in the Pentagon, we now have the opportunity to seriously degrade the military capacity of one of our sworn global enemies. We can do so by sending equipment (much of which is older and being mothballed or relegated to training) to Ukraine, to be used without American personnel, and then request appropriations to replace the "donated" material with modern versions. From the Pentagon's viewpoint, this is as close to a win-win situation as can be.
Our military planners are absolutely fighting a proxy war against Russia. But, Russia has no proxy and has real skin in the game. Our government, and possibly Zelensky, are willing to fight to the last Ukranian.
In the end, the Ukrainian people are being murdered by Russia and are being continuously fed into the proverbial grinder by their allies.
