Thinking it's time to finally mill my slide

So if you "know me" on here you know I am 100% sold on my carry gun having an RMR (and no RMR is not generic, Trijicon makes the RMR, there are many other red dots on the market, maybe 2 that are acceptable, but honestly Trijicon is the only real way to go imho)

Well the thing is there are 8 million people who mill glock slides. (When I had to do this for my CZ P-07 the only issue was who to go with of the only 3 companies that milled for the P-07)

I think I have narrowed it down to 3 companies (but am open to more options)


Option 1) Jagerweks $185 (plus order the sights somewhere else so an added $46.69+shipping)
Pros)
A) They have been doing this for a while. Super nice work

B) They will align both irons and RMR sighs for free.

Cons
A) I have to order my own iron sights and send them with slide

B) it appears they do just a standard universal mill (* will go into this later for those who dont know)


Option 2) Primary Machine $236.50

Pros
A) The owner is super awesome, huge CZ P-07/09/10 fan and has been doing a lot of other stuff along with slide work

B) they do a "pro cut", so each RMR is measured and their milling program is adjusted to that specific RMR

Cons
A) they do not "sight in" after they mill the slide

Option 3) Battlewerx $234.99

Pros
A) it seems their cut is slightly lower than the others, so the sight will be lower.

B) that say their "indexing posts" keep zero when taking the sight on and off (this is more of a wash because I would 100% still verify zero which is pretty much the same as zeoring the gun when taking the sight off)

Cons
A) dont sight in the sight

B) not a "pro cut"

As bad as it sounds, the turn around time is also a big thing for me, but I dont know exactly what each ones is

A snug fitted cut will be superior, takes the strain of the recoil impulse off of the screws attaching the red dot. Your second option sounds like they taking the time to endure the best possible fit.

This is who I am leaning to. I do know jager used to do the pro cuts.

I also do need to find out if any of the companies will do other slide milling later if there is already some milling (ie rmr cute) as I want to add front slide serrations later when I get some more for the build

Iv heard nothing but great from Primary machine. Im in the same market as you and once a few other needs are met Iv decided to go with them for my slide work for my Glock and H&K

I have not sent a pistol out for this so take it for what it is worth. If durability of the sight is a top priority than there is nothing better than the RMR. I would also be cautious on the MOA size of the dot choice.

As far as sighting in from the company I would not care. I dont find it hard to do and tend to have to adjust anyway. I know the Battlewerx has the locating pins to hold zero but not a huge deal either because you can use you irons to check and adjust anyway. Of coarse live fire should be done to verify. Some companies I have seen dont refinish the cut or it is an option and I think it would be a good idea to have some sort protection. Also some places offer different sight options so a place with the sights you like would be important too.

At the end of the day it is not a very difficult milling process so as long as you pick a company that has a good reputation you will be fine. I would be more concerned with positive reviews than turn around time or price, if your happy with it you will forget all about a couple of extra bucks or days.

I think you have the 3 main ones that have a good balance of quality, price and lead time. I've come across many companies I would trust doing the work. The problems is they are either expensive or have a giant lead time.

I have to recommend the guy that did mine, because he did a great job. His lead time was large though. In all fairness he claimed it wasn't him it was the frame/cerakote guy. Which right after mine that guy closed his books so he could have been telling the truth.

I have been really liking these guys work lately and will probably do some work with them in the future. I think their price in line with what you have above but I have no clue on their lead time.

6.5 MOA would be my choice, seems like a lot of guys start with 3 MOA which I think is too small for typical pistol stuff imo.

Deff not work, and I have been meaning to stop and my parents place or somewhere, but I drive an hour to work, then work 12 hour nights (3rd shift) mon-fri and take it easy and only work 6 hours sat and sun and then drive an hour home, so sadly this year has been pretty much just work and maybe some sleep

But @71velle I completely forgot about a library ..... and there just happens to be one right across from the post office which is right next to were my girlfriend works who I do stop and say hello on my way home from work. So that actually would be a super easy fix....

The library is a great resource that is commonly over looked, and its our tax dollars at work.

You might need a library card to log on a computer and they may not allow you to access a gun webpage so if you an download the form and email it to your self. If the down load and email is a problem let me know I will try to help.

BTW, are you going to have the rear sight in front or behind the optic? I might consider it in front so the ejected cases dont bounce off the optic not that it is a big deal.

Yeah I guess they e-mail the order confirmation and that gets printed out and mailed with the slide, so shouldn't be an issue.

As for irons. My CZ has the irons forward, so the glock will most likely be irons forward. I have never done irons rear so I cant really compare the two.

But my thinking is giving the optic just a little more protection, even more than just brass, in case of one handed manipulation the irons are taking the punishment vs the optic.

I read a while back an article by Gabe Suarez on the topic, in short he says irons must be behind the optic, irons in front will result in you getting killed. Reasoning....

1) it reduces the sight radius
2) irons in the front blocks more of the window.

Aaron Cowan from sage dynamics also did a thing on the subject saying either work but he prefers irons forward. And responded to atleast the first thing brought up by Gabe. The iron sights are a back up so sight radius isnt really an issue until it is, then shows how the glock 26 sight radius (which even Gabe approves of a 26 as being an acceptable carry gun) is about the same size as a glock 19 sight radius with irons moved forward

In the end the only reason I would keep the rear sight were it was, is if I ever planned to run the gun with and without an RMR, and since this is my carry gun and will always have an RMR on it irons will go forward. Now if I do my G17 later on I will keep the sights where they are and and keep that gun so I can maybe use it as a competition gun both stock class and maybe an optics class

Some stages in gun games require one handed weak hand shooting and I hand a hard time finding the dot holding the pistol left hand only, so I looked through the window and used the front sight. It was plenty good for minute of bad guy accuracy so I would not labor over the decision, either front or rear will be fine for a backup. If you happy with the arrangement on the CZ it might be a good way to go. Every Glock that has the sight in front that I have seen gets nicked up on the shroud but the glass does not get scratched.

I know the difference is only about 1/4 inch but could it make a difference in comfort in carry?

Well my slide and RMR (oh and barrel) are in the mail,

Ended up going with Mod-K Armory. They have a "flat pack" package. Its RMR milling, top window cut, barrel ports, and cerakote. They had a cyber Monday sale for $199.

The sweet part was they do the "pro cut" for the RMR, which means each cut is custom measured from the RMR and the CNC code is altered for each one, and then after that they also sight in the irons and RMR

1) I don't have a 10c

2) the cost of a whole new slide milled with a cookie cutter RMR mill is going to cost more than what I spent on .... RMR mill, top window milling, barrel porting and cerakot (and even add in the tuned recoil spring and back up iron sights...)

So final conclusion. If anything blank or even OEM or aftermarket "OEM" type slides can be had later if i want a boring OEM style g19 which I don't. Hell even if by the off chance I dont like the ports I just get a new barrel for <$200

Many pre cut slides (fun fact the p320 is the worst) are not as secure, this has gotten better over the years, glock being a big problem of optics flying off, but seem to be better now.

But they still all rely on mounting plates for each specific optic. This causes the optic to sit higher than in needs to be and a less secure mount.

While getting a slide milled for a specific slide will get a lower and more secure mount.
Think of how fast slides moves that's a lot of force. There are 2 types if cuts. Basic which is just a cookie cutter CNC code for what ever slide and optic combo. Not bad better than mounting plates and what not, but still leaves very small differences from optic to optic.

Or there is a pro cut, where they measure the individual optic and adjust the program to the specific detentions, meaning a tighter more secure mount. It can also be lower in the slide which means the optic is closer to inline with the bore of the handgun

i recently bought a plate and Romeo1 for my Sig P2022 9mm.
you knock off the back sight and install the plate and optic.
its not a race gun, but it gets real racy!

Knock off the back sight. Unless it's a gamer gun (and I'm not trying to be mean but the romeo 1 is another one of sigs recent fails) why would I want to knock out the back sight?
