I have confidence that if democratic socialists dug into the fine distinctions that serve as the framework of market systems, many would redirect their frustrations to a more deserving entity. To quote the late Friedrich Hayek, “If socialists understood economics they wouldn’t be socialists.”
Maybe for some but the seduction of power and/or wealth for the nomenklatura is undeniable.
100 million people figure is a fabrication. The actual number is a small fraction of that. I don't really care for communist ideology, but if you going to throw wild claims at people, it's fair to see their response as well. Here is how they discredit such fabrications.

Having worked for years with two men that are from USSR controlled countries, I find you do not know what your talking about. Posting a link to a propaganda communist site is probably better than doing a search for death by communism.
Perhaps you are from the younger generations that have been indoctrinated by the socialist, as was told to us by the communist as to how they would fight us.
Perhaps your from a communist country, if not why would you be fighting for socialism so hard, from each to each, how many of your guns have you given to people who have a need?
If you believe in social/communist by all means please feel free to leave for one of those great countries, North Korea looks nice this time of year! Just be sure because they all have walls to keep you in.

Unlike you, who listened to one-sided propaganda all of your life, I know both sides of it and can tell what was real and what was fabricated. How many billions of dollars did we spent on recycling Nazi propaganda under the umbrella of promoting freedom? You worked with two men. I heard hundreds of stories.
One of the biggest lies is proclaiming "Soviet enslavement of Europe" and comparing that to Nazi occupation.
Stalin was a communist, he believed in greatness of that system. This is what he promoted in countries liberated by the Soviet Union from the Nazis, even in countries which fought against Soviet Union as Nazi allies. The standard of living in every Eastern Block country was considerably higher than in Soviet Union. How is that an enslavement? Slaves don't live better than their masters. Hitler believed in the supremacy of Arian race. He believed some races should be exterminated, others reduced to 1/3 with their land divided among German nobility and others simply subjugated.
We can spend gazillion more dollars on lies and exaggerations, but we will never get over that historical fact. One doesn't need to believe in communism to have a fair and objective view of world history. Indoctrinated and narrow minded people see anything less than upholding our discredited cold war propaganda as a nod to socialism or communism.

Yes and no, there were thousands of refugees that came to the Soviet Union from Spain and Greece and tenth of thousands Polish Jews escaping the Holocaust at the hands of Germans and Poles. There was also a sizable immigration into Soviet Union from third world countries.

Think of it this way... People living under communism are willing to risk their lives to make rafts from garbage to sail over open water to try and reach a capitalist country.

lol IT MUST BE one or the other! No possible way to have a nuanced opinion that lies somewhere in between. I do believe a European, or harder, style of socialism would be the ruin of this country as founded. That doesn't mean I look at all social safety net programs as a bad thing. GTFO here with YOUR accusations, assumptions, and labels

All of those service could be provided by a private entity and done more efficiently for less money
I'm completely against all of those being publicly funded BTW.
Social security . Complete failure.
Police. Double complete failure.
Fire department. Complete failure compared to volunteer.
Roads. Obvious complete failure. And we have to pay to prove our cars are roadworthy when their roads are not car worthy? No.
Public library. What? A what? I think 3 people used local ones last decade. Complete failure.

Farm subsidies. Not only a complete failure, an anger inducing one. We don't do bailouts.

Both of your examples are examples of the private sector being better.
While I don't agree with private prisons, for several reasons, you can't argue that they aren't cheaper or more efficient.
How exactly do you think a public version of the pharmaceutical industry would work ? It certainly wouldn't be cheaper, and you'd get what one or 2 new drugs every decade ?

Everyone loves redistribution as soon as it is not their property and wealth.

Yeah and then there were my ancestors, from Lithuania who fled the soviet before the NAZIs where even doing their thing. The soviets were not so nice to their people. Do not whitewash history. Untold numbers suffered horrible deaths in the gulags, and that’s not even touching on the rapes of innocent German civilians by Russian troops. My grandmother was a German who fled those very raping communist troops.
Please leave your Stalinist apologia out of this country. It is antithetical to our ways. I’m sure China is accepting immigrants if you’d like to live under government boots

Ok, I'll bite, how much do you think those drugs would cost *taxpayers* If the government was producing them ? It doesn't count if the drug costs $5 because the taxpayers subsidize it by $995.
And if you're thinking of EpiPens, I'll remind you that the recent cost increase is only possible due to a government enforced monopoly.
And if you're going to compare what they pay for those drugs in other countries, I'll remind you that it's *the same private companies* producing them, not the governments.

Everybody who ever complains about how evil big corporations are never seems to consider that the biggest and most evil corporations are governments.
Government consumes it produces nothing, it is "non-profit " with your tax dollars. Private Wall Street is where your retirement is if you don't know.
Other countries medical/ pharmaceuticals are subsidized by the U.S.A. consumer.
Socialism is nothing more than a scary step towards communism; the U.S tried socialism at the first colonies, Plymouth/Virginia, and it failed almost killing all of them, including the people who did work.

Are you sure they fled before the Nazis and not with the Nazis? Why would you even specify that? I met Lithuanians here who served the Nazis. They participated in atrocities against their Jewish and Russians neighbors, escaped to the US and to justify their disgusting conduct back home made up or exaggerated stories of their suffering. Not just Lithuanians. Your grandmother should blame Hitler and German people who empowered him. Invading other countries with the intent to steal their land and enslave their people comes with the consequences.
