I disagree. The internet is a vital utility nowadays. Without it, you can't look for work. Without work, you can't eat unless you live with your parents.

Almost all postings are online only. Hardly any are in the newspaper anymore. Often times even if you go somewhere to inquire for work, they tell you to submit an online resume. You can't get news. Many gas stations no longer bother with selling printed newspapers since no one buys them.

There are lots of things you can no longer do that you could do previously without the internet.

Good I'm glad it was rolled back. The free market will prevail in the end. If you don't like what someone is charging then don't use the service. There is no violation of constitutional rights or anything else that's going on. Let's shrink the government not expand it.

And for God's sake, stop believing what you hear in the media.

I'd argue that home internet isn't a necessity like electric, so the two aren't comparable. You have plenty of options for internet. Cable (Spectrum, Cox, Comcast, whoever), satellite, phone (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, whoever), DSL, etc. There are options. Increasing government regulations isn't going to increase competition and give you more options.

You keep saying there are options. By me it's just Spectrum. DSL may be available but it's too slow to do anything with. The same goes with your cell phone internet. Try doing anything worthwhile with it.

I know people that use DSL and cell phone hotspots. To do the vast majority of things, DSL and phone speeds are perfectly fine.

Many rural areas only have one choice. So you aren't happy and you drop it. Now your kids can't do their homework and you can't look for a job after getting laid off.

If you're going to argue that it is vital, are you also going to argue that housing is vital and should be controlled. Guess what started the home crisis about a decade ago? Banks made bad loans because they were protected by the government. YAY GOVERNMENT!

Are you going to argue that food is vital, so the government should control food distribution?

Just because something is important or vital doesn't mean the government should be meddling in it.

I can't argue that point. My only counter is that the only websites that you can access are the ones that they make affordable. The library isn't going to make it a priority for you to access Breitbart and Fox news if it costs more.

No. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm against is the provider only giving you certain websites that you can afford that they want for their political purposes. If that's the case, then only poor people can get the information that the provider will allow them to get.

Technology has moved forward in the past 15 years without NN . DSL connections can go way faster than they used to. I think Frontier offers 6m residential now, which should be enough to watch HD video.

If all you get is access to Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat for 20 bucks a month like they want to do, guess where the majority of the people will get their news from? It's a form of censorship. You think fake news is a problem now? Imagine if that was the only news source for most people. It would be like Fidel Castro's internet.

I understand your point, but i cant support it. Where i grew up there was no cable tv, and there still isnt 44 years later. My folks got satellite several years ago and while its not great they make due.

No cable on my road, I use my phone as a hotspot, a bit expensive but after looking at satellite options I decided not to go that route. I don't stream music, TV or movies. Watch stuff on YouTube, works for me but would like a better option.

As for NN or anything the government feels the need to "control" will always bring out the skeptic in me, I'm fine with this decision.

So they have their own monopoly to deal with. If satellite makes all access unaffordable, they'll have nowhere to go to and fall into being forced to only use Fidel Castro's internet that only has access to Facebook, Snapchat, and basic email. That's my point. That's a good way of turning red rural areas blue.

They should have access to everything even if dial-up speeds is all they can afford so they can read news for themselves from any outlet.
