In the case of protecting the flow of free information, my answer is yes. It isn't black and white like I said earlier.
Do you want private hospitals to not be regulated into taking certain patients into their emergency rooms for basic life saving first aid? What about ambulances?
Years ago Hatzolah under the 911 system responded to a vehicle crash and only provided first aid to the Jewish drivers while leaving the occupants of the other car with no first aid. Is that okay?
What about health inspections in restaurants and food. Should the government not have safety standards? Would you be okay if they make their food with chemicals that are cheaper without telling you?
Sometimes the gov has to provide regulations. The protection of free flowing information is one of them.
Do you see where that can lead with no regulation?
How about we don't regulate waste from nuclear power plants? Those are private businesses.

Just FYI before modern Net Neutrality, these problems all arose:
2005 – North Carolina ISP Madison River Communications blocked VoIP service Vonage.
2005 – Comcast blocked or severely delayed traffic using the BitTorrent file-sharing protocol. (The company even had the guts to deny this for months until evidence was presented by the Associated Press.)
2007 – AT&T censored Pearl Jam because lead singer criticized President Bush.
2007 to 2009 – AT&T forced Apple to block Skype because it didn’t like the competition. At the time, the carrier had exclusive rights to sell the iPhone and even then the net neutrality advocates were pushing the government to protect online consumers, over 5 years before these rules were actually passed.
2009 – Google Voice app faced similar issues from ISPs, including AT&T on iPhone.
2010 – Windstream Communications, a DSL provider, started hijacking search results made using Google toolbar. It consistently redirected users to Windstream’s own search engine and results.
2011 – MetroPCS, one of the top-five wireless carriers at the time, announced plans to block streaming services over its 4G network from everyone except YouTube.
2011 to 2013 – AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon blocked Google Wallet in favor of Isis, a mobile payment system in which all three had shares. Verizon even asked Google to not include its payment app in its Nexus devices.
2012 – AT&T blocked FaceTime; again because the company didn’t like the competition.
2012 – Verizon started blocking people from using tethering apps on their phones that enabled consumers to avoid the company’s $20 tethering fee.
2014 – AT&T announced a new “sponsored data” scheme, offering content creators a way to buy their way around the data caps that AT&T imposes on its subscribers.
2014 – Netflix started paying Verizon and Comcast to “improve streaming service for consumers.”
2014 – T-Mobile was accused of using data caps to manipulate online competition.

Of course they should have to take them. It's life or death. That's not the case with information. But, any health care provider that would deny life saving first aid will be run out of business faster than the ink would take to dry on the lawsuit. They take an oath, and every practitioner that I've ever come across takes that seriously.
You're going to have to link me to that. I'm not familiar with it. However, the Hatzolah are a private organization that, as far as I'm aware, has no ties to any 911 system. It's a shitty thing to do, but I don't think that people should be forced to intervene. I'd have to see the specifics of the event you're thinking of to pass judgement.

A business in Rochester got a bunch of people sick last winter when their gravy wasn't heated up properly and got a bunch of people sick with salmonella. Guess what? The restaurant isn't in business anymore.
Should ESPN be allowed to have their "Insider" package? Should Ben Shapiro be allowed to have his "Tumbler Club" where people who subscribe get more content? Should forums be allowed to have subscriptions that offer benefits (more inbox space, no ads which result in faster load times, etc)? Should websites like this one be forced to allow information that goes against what we believe?
The only problem with this list is that it conveniently left out what happens to said companies after their decisions.
Look specifically at the AT&T facetime one. That's a go to. And they said no FaceTime on network data. Something the consumers agreed to when they signed the contract.

I would think that discharging radioactive waste into a stream would be infringing on other's rights, no? They have no choice in the matter, which is the exact opposite of this issue we're discussing. People do have a choice. Choose a different (or no) ISP.

Guess what happens if Spectrum decides to throttle or charge for packages?

You really think Spectrum will be throttling or charging for packages if other ISPs in their major markets don't? They'll get hammered if they do. They're not going to be charging the Finger Lakes for packages when they can't do it for Rochester.
His point is valid. I should be able to drink the milk straight out of the cow's teat if I want. We can't even buy raw cider from the state fruit! I understand the want for regulation to protect people, but there is a point where it starts to be ridiculous.

I live in a condo complex. We are not allowed to place satellite dishes on the building itself. The only people that have them are the ones that have the balconies facing the right direction and they have them on poles in flower pots filled with cement. My balcony faces the wrong direction. My only other recourse would be DSL. If they did the same thing what would be my choice? What if Dish Network decided to do the same thing? What would be your recourse?
