Thordsen FRS Gen III Featureless Stock

It's early for me, but I think that as long as the stock is sufficiently stiff it is still against the bore line. I think you could have a stock that goes down 25" with a massive U shape and the u doesn't impact where the felt recoil is if it's stiff and not giving. The main issue with this design is you end up getting the recoil through the tab on the lower, but it seems strong enough.

Do you guys plan on rapid firing at 300 yards with your fixed magazines? If not, the slightly off center recoil vector means nothing.

I'm pretty sure it's moot actually. Check out the attached drawing. Both cars are stalled and you're trying to push them forward. In car 1 you get directly behind the car and push on the bumper in the direction you want it to go. You do the exact same thing in Car 2, irrespective of the fact that there is a massive lever off to the right (similar to the Thordsen). The torque from the extended arms cancels itself out; if you push anywhere on the bumper for car2 other than in the exact direction, and dead center to the car, that you want it to go, at that point you introduce torque to the car. If it's on ice or on oil it will start to veer off center unless you are directly behind it. Thus, I think the thordsen does not introduce increased rise on the muzzle vs a stock attached to the buffer tube. The key thing is where is the stock on the thordsen: it is behind and in line with the buffer tube. Doesn't matter what else is going on to the side.

Flexing in the thordsen stock would introduce some temporary rising you wouldn't normally see, and then it would actually be perfectly balanced by overcorrecting as the springiness in the stock ends up trying to torque the gun below its original point. In other words, the more wiggly and flexible the thordsen stock, the worst you'll be from shot to shot no doubt, but it's not because the thordsen is attached at the grip tab.

OTHER RESTRICTED FEATURES listed in the New York Safe Act, DOES NOT meet the definition of an
"assault weapon" and therefore DOES NOT require mandatory registration.

In order to comply with the NY SAFE ACT, the conversion from a pistol grip to an FRS-15 stock should not be
readily convertible or easily able to be reversed back to the pistol grip configuration. Although it is not required
by law, a method demonstrating permanence (as suggested by New York authorities) is to fill the screw head or
cavity with epoxy, silicone based caulk, or other permanent sealant.

This has been on their website for quite a while and although it's "verbally stated", I'm sure the state knows about these stocks and the statement herein, and so I'm sure it was in fact verbally stated. Short of legal precedent I consider these stocks good to go. Moreover, many stores have sold ARs with them in the past few years and not one has been shut down for considering the stock part of a featureless rifle.

Someone should take further advantage of this loophole to produce a stock with a much steeper grip angle that is also further forward to bring the controls back to thumb's reach.

Without the insert its no longer NYS compliant correct? Indent doesn't cut it for me, need to be able to fully grasp the stock to enable stable single handed hold of the rifle.
I bet that Hera Arms furniture weighs a ton as well.

Yeah, I wonder how easy it is to remove. Also, if we have a thumb shaped molded indentation, how far around the grip can that go? You could in theory wrap most of your hand around it and it wouldn't be a hole

Seems way to fiddly and fussy to me. I'd rather just run a regular Thordsen. I just think it would be much better if the Thordsen grip were more vertical.

That looks cool, and pretty practical. However it's looks like the thumb is still not in reach of the saftey. The effortless and speedy thumb swipe to from safe to fire is a major ergonomic feature of the AR pattern.

With these grips and or stocks, you can reach and activate the safety with no problem. You just can't put it back on unless you get an ambidextrous safety or break your grip.

It doesn't really bother me as long as I can take it off safe one handed. That's all that matters. After the shooting has stopped, I can break my grip to put it back on with no problem.

With these grips and or stocks, you can reach and activate the safety with no problem. You just can't put it back on unless you get an ambidextrous safety or break your grip.

It doesn't really bother me as long as I can take it off safe one handed. That's all that matters. After the shooting has stopped, I can break my grip to put it back on with no problem.

Breaking grip to engage the safety is no big deal like you say. If you can sweep the safety off that grip looks like a winner to me. Let us know how it works for you.

Looks good. They printed some ideas up on a 3D printer, then once they finalize the design they bid out quotes to china I'm guessing and spend a few bucks per then turn around stateside. I guess their sales volume will be low though as the market is fairly niche.

I have a $200 printer that will print carbon infused plastic, but it doesn't quite go big enough for a full size grip, otherwise I had thought of printing a few and selling them (there is a free design on thingiverse.com).

This thing looks really good, though, and way cheaper than a thordsen.

EDIT: Here is the design on thingiverse, some guy posted it for free in January. Looks like this grip with the top above the line the guy spoke about. It does not look as comfortable as the resurgent arms one, though.

Believe it or not I managed to fit it on my printer bed with literally 1 mm to spare. It's printing now, but will take many hours, plus this carbon fiber infused plastic is slightly finicky. So, I'll see what happens by tomorrow morning
