Their goal and agenda was to stop the certification of Electoral Votes, and possibly to violently threaten the members of Congress into rejecting the votes for Biden even though they were certified as legitimate by the Secretaries of State & legislatures of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin & Michigan. That would have been a literal attack upon the US Constitution and a coup.

Constitution is clear: Congress votes to certify the Electoral College results. If the protestors had forced the Congressmen and Senators to ignore the Electoral votes from the 6 states, Trump would have won. Many of the protestors had weapons and wanted to kill Mike Pence, so its not unreasonable to believe they would have used force to make Congress do was they wished.
There is no stipulation in the Constitution about ignoring an Electoral College vote if it is done under threat of violence.
