Apparently, his motive from what I've been able to piece together was his mother had really bad neuropathy and UHC didn't want to cover anything for years and years and kept dicking him and her around. And then he had some sort of pain thing too going on and just snapped and decided he wasn't going to tolerate it anymore.

His family is worth millions. They are deeply invested in healthcare and real estate. Kid went to U Penn, traveled all over.
They weren't hurting so much for money that some denied claims would ruin their lives at all. If that were the case I could agree.
I think it's more likely that the volunteer work the kid did at the family's nursing/elderly care facility helped influence his beliefs and the internet research he did on his own back pain problems took him down some rabbit holes. Combine that with what he had likely been taught at U. Penn and what most kids believe these days, that capitalism is the root of all evil and everything bad that happens to them must be someone else's fault, then you can see how the Marxist mindset starts to take hold.
You can even see it by some here of all places.
These problems are not due to capitalism, it's due to Government meddling.

I like a conspiracy as much as anyone (except maybe defilade) but no, I don't think so. I think he is the guy.
I imagine the cops have body cam footage going through his backpack that will make it to the trial. Evidence chain of custody is critical.

This wasn't all that easy to solve, it really wasn't "solved" at all, it mostly came down to dumb luck. The kid did take precautions and did some decent planning but made some stupid mistakes.
Keeping the mask and hat on made him resemble the wanted pics more than if he'd have ditched them, or at least altered them. (those bushy eyebrows are enough to make kathy jelly)
He also probably didn't realize how well they can track a subject through multiple camera feeds and work it backwards. If he had he'd never have dropped his mask in the hostel.
And most of all, have we heard from the FBI yet.....

yeah from a self made millionaire family and can't work out that it was capitalism that made it possible. Well he wasn't the one that earned it, so maybe to him it felt like socialism....green guilt. All it takes is a couple generations to turn a nation.
Maybe he denied the money was his because the foreign cash could be used to argue an intent to flee the country, implying guilt.
Or, here's another conspiracy theory....he was paid for the crime, the money on him was for expenses and his final payment was waiting in whatever country that foreign cash would have taken him to. The manifesto was a red herring to provide an alternate motive in the event he was caught.

Also strange to me is that I read NYS has charged him with murder in the second degree. Why not first degree? Obviously premeditated. Easier conviction?

I'm going with a much more simple motive. He had whatever breakdown it took and did what he did because he is batshit crazy. He convinced himself that he was in the right and no one would ever find him eating in Mcdonalds so there was no reason to hide anything.
Our political leaders, who profit from the denial for-profit system run by corporate health insurers, have failed to act in the best interest of the people. And when politicians become indifferent to the people's needs, the people will act. It's really that simple.

I didn't say that. I said when the government doesn't act on behalf of the people, the people will do so on behalf of themselves. I'm not endorsing or encouraging anything, I'm merely identifying the reality of the situation. That action can take many forms, from disengagement to protests to violence, etc.
That being said, I don't really care the CEO got dirt napped. He made his pile of money.... blood money by putting in place policies to deny people coverage that they paid for. Keep in mind, this wasn't about charity or "free" stuff. These people paid thousands upon thousands of dollars for coverage and these insurance companies then up and deny them what they paid for. You can only deny people critical health care that they paid for for so long and to so many people before that boomerang returns home. To me this is a fuck around and find out item. In NY, premeditation alone doesn’t qualify you for first degree. 2nd degree is the highest they could charge him with. Both can have life sentences, main difference is that for 1st degree there’s a mandatory minimum of 20 years, and for 2nd degree the minimum is 15 years.

If you play stupid games don't be surprised when you win stupid prizes. Denying people literal life and death healthcoverage they paid for is a stupid game to play.
I also don't have a lot of sympathy for people that do bad things and face repercussions for their choices (again just like gang members getting shot).

Hypothetically if I was going to that sort of thing I'd assume that there were automated systems in place to release things. I'd do it as a sort of dead man's switch. Once I stopped signing in after a certain period of time it would start with whatever automated processes I wanted.

The guy was very intelligent and Tech savy , the plan was thought out in advance , the fact he even had a cell phone with him , then discarded it in a nearby trash can sounds like a total bullshit story to me too.
