Gonna have an issue with the "protruding conspicuously below the action" portion of some pistol-grip definitions.

That is why I think it's legal. It doesn't produce conspicuously below. It goes back just the same as the Thordsen.
The law says that first it must be a pistol grip which this is not and then it says that it must conspicuously protrude beneath the action of the weapon.

That protrusion is visible to anyone with 2 good eyes, the semantics work against your argument.

BTW, although I appreciate the ingenuity, I personally think the grip in question is a canted pistol grip. But, I'm not a lawyer or certified gunsmith. So, WTF do I know? (Ummm...don't ask my wife that question.)

Stub grip is there no matter how you try and slice it, and is more than similar enough to MANY "pistol" grips for any motivated DA in NY to drop the hammer on you without a thought to losing a conviction. Your hand gains purchase on that grip in the same way it would on a pistol, and the stubby protrudes below the attachment point. I wish it weren't the case that NY has such bullshit laws that do nothing but make law abiding gun owners feel like criminals, but SAFE is several years old already, we're stuck with it, and EVERYONE here knows it.
The safe act sucks.

I challenge anyone to show me a pistol with a grip like that. A grip is not a pistol grip. It has to be a pistol grip first and then protrude conspicuously. It doesn't even do that.

Underneath the receiver if you draw a line across the grip, it does not protrude. Behind the receiver it protrudes at an angle of any rifle grip.
While there is no standard angle a good lawyer could convince the jury that your grip is more pistol than rifle.

I didn't say it matches a pistol grip I said it wasn't a rifle grip. I don't think you can hang your hat on calling it "other"

Then you're just ignoring it Will, and I mean that with all due respect. Any objective observer would call that a pistol grip, it's a stubby, it protrudes, and is similar to DOZENS of compact pistol grips in function and form. You'd have your ass bbq'd by the DA if they wanted to screw you with a SAFE violation, and I think you know that's the truth.

You cut it out of your picture.
Even if you draw a straight line from the lowest point (bottom of trigger guard in that example), the grip has a portion below it. To say otherwise is, well, I don't know because it's pretty damned obvious.
