Army: Your new handgun will be a Sig Sauer

Half a decade into its search for a new handgun, the Army has chosen Sig Sauer's version of the Modular Handgun System, according to a Thursday announcement from the Army.

The new sidearm will replace the M9 Beretta, the Army's pistol of choice for more than 30 years.

"I am tremendously proud of the Modular Handgun System team," said Army acquisition executive Steffanie Easter in the release. "By maximizing full and open competition across our industry partners, we have optimized private sector advancements in handguns, ammunition and magazines and the end result will ensure a decidedly superior weapon system for our warfighters."

I've been looking to get a P320 but have been having a heck of a time trying to find one locally. When I do my plan is to trade in my P250 for it. The 250 is a decent gun but I personally am not a fan of the trigger. Hopefully this will raise the popularity of the P320 and get them out in the market more.

Iv put some rounds through a 320 very nice piece. Ergonomics are well thought out and its a smooth shooter for a polymer gun. Trigger reset was a little lacking but Im sure with the addition of the Sig SRT kit that would clean up

Big mistake. Did you see that Sig hiccup in the video below. That's the second time Sig has failed tests done by this guy.

I think it is a fine choice. The Beretta had some issues in these types of torture tests as well, not once did my M9 fail me when I needed it to work. It worked each and every time I needed it to.

In FMJ form the .40 behaves exactly as a 9mm. It can't be the .45 because in FMJ it penetrates less.

It's gotta be the .357 Sig then for added penetration. That wouldn't be a bad thing but I'm sure it's just bad reporting.

I know little to nothing about the Sig 320. I do know my opinion of the Sig 229 DAK is that it was a piece of crap. I carried one for 2 years 9 months before I retired. A lot of the ones we were issued had problems. I heard a lot over the years about poor quality control at Sig too. I would not have one.

As for the Army selecting them, what gets me is at least one of the linked articles says they were seeking a pistol with a more powerful round than the 9mm and one says a source said the 9mm version of the 320 was selected. Screwball logic unless it has interchageable caliber capability.
