USP / P226 ; USP compact/P2000/P229?

Kind of all over the map here but looking for opinions on these (and anything else I may be missing I shouldn't).

I am looking for a 9. I have on the way a P227 and I am familiar with the operation and ergos of Sig. Not sure where I can go fondle some H&K's but definitely won't buy one without handling. At some point I will also have an M&P 45 full size so I have that caliber covered. Not interested in .40.

This will be a range/HD gun, if I go with one of the compacts it may become a carry someday, but generally not the biggest factor.

I have a preference for DA/SA hammer fired guns. I do like metal over plastic but the HK's get pretty good reviews.

Thoughts?

The 75 series is probably the single most cloned design to date, with some of the most top competition style race guns starting out as a CZ or clone

Want to talk about egos. Mmmm it's like holding a beautiful woman, price for what you are getting (only expensive part would be the P-07 or 09 and slightly the 10c but that's not a hammer gun, magazines) they shoot laser point accuracy

I’d go with aSig 228. They are just right, as in compact, we’ll balanced, all metal and you know the platform. I have the 226,229,239 and of course the 228. I own 5 228’s, I couldn’t imagine life without them.

The cool but difficult part is for the most part app CZs are 75s but there is the P-01 and that I'd supposed to be tits,

Yes it is. I would get a West German/German made 228. The rolled metal is better than what Sig is producting today.

If you are familiar with the sig, I would stick to that. I have and carry on occasion the USPc, also have the 229. Don’t carry it. Just doesn’t work for me. But the War Department loves Sigs so they tend to hang around her. The mag release on the USPc is a paddle rather than a button so you have to fight muscle memory on that one.

I use a H&K .45USP as my HD gun. It handles well and it was very accurate out of the box, like most H&K's. I often carry a H&K VP9, and I like that a lot. It has the night sights, so it's the back up to my .45. The VP9 comes with the different size grip plates, so you can customize the grip for your hand. The VP9 shoots very well.

Father in law is getting me some prices. Will try to get out and fondle some pistols at Collectors in Hopewell and maybe Precision in Carmel on my Monday afternoon off. CZ D PCR has a certain appeal at this point. Though if i have to swap out the sights, some springs, and add the short reset I may as well buy the Sig for the money.

I would add, I am down for a decocker, no manual safety if possible.

If you want just a decocker and still looking at CZs look for ones that have the Omega trigger (its changeable and they send you both the decocker and the safety yo set up how you want)

Definitely check out the CZ SP01/Shadow 2 in addition to the P226 series. Also why not look into the classic Beretta M92 series? The base models are so cheap now. If your budget allows something from the top shelf this is what I'm lusting after in a full size, metal frame gun that is equally suited for home and range duty:

@Edwardteach72 what's the advantage of the Omega trigger? I've read the DA pull is harder but the SA is nicer? Would I be better off starting with a P01 Omega than a PCR? I don't intend needing a rail on whatever I wind up getting.

@Podmonkey - got respect for Barretta but don't like the placement of the controls. Will definitely take a look though, nothing off the table at this point.

I am liking the lower bore axis of the CZ's (and that is something I *do* like about the Barrettas).

Well the nice thing about that Wilson Combat M92 is that its converted to a G model configuration, meaning the safety is now a decocker only. Renders the issues with its placement largely moot. I gave had the opportunity to fondle one, the trigger is butter smooth and the DA mode has been lightened considerably.

Also regarding the CZ Omega trigger. Its main purpose is to allow the end user to convert the pistol safety to a decocker and back at will.

Some pricing is in. I can apparently get a 75 BD for 543.20, a PCR for 532.54, a P01 for 706.38. USP 9 for 782, USPC 9 for 813. Waiting on Sig prices.

ETA: am currently leaning heavily toward the PCR. Convince me otherwise. Though with the prices quoted I am tempted by the BD AND the PCR

Not to pile on and make things more confusing for you but I wish I would have gotten into CZ earlier on. I bought a CZ 75 SP01 a few months back and has quickly become my favorite gun I own. I’m now looking into a P07. I have some plastic striker guns to dump now. I’ve become a fan boy for cz for sure.

The Wlison Comat Beretta? I really want one!

What I want to know is that if the stock magazines, which look like super high quality, can have there capacity increased via new springs and followers. Mec-Gar offers an 18 round flush fit magazine for the M92. I wonder if swapping the baseplates, springs and follower would work? Probably. 15 is tad small for a big ass gun like the 92.

I have a Beretta 92A1 that I use the 18 round MecGar mags in (standard AFC - anti friction coating) about $38
The Beretta sand resistant 15 round ones are on sale right now for $27 (normally $38)

This is what the P07 was base off of. So for about 1/3 or 1/2 the price you can get a p07 and it's going to be just as nice, add a few bucks in CGW parts and you will still be less into it and have a better gun
