Vehicle weapon storage solutions

Post up what you've got or are thinking about getting. With the Get Home Bag thread fresh on my mind, I was thinking of storage myself. Makes no sense to put ammo in my bag if I'm not gonna carry, or if for some reason, I need to lock up my current weapon. I know some carriers out there make cases that go under the rear truck bench seat, and I know some people have a safe under their seats, so post those up (or generic pics/links if you don't want your spot blown up), but also show me the creative stuff too. Under the seat is an obvious spot to look. Hell, if someone breaks into your vehicle because they see you have a stereo, they might look under the seat for an amp or sub, and then find your weapons case. I was thinking of creative stuff like in the back compartment of most vehicles where they store the jack and tools. Most cars don't have those tools anymore, or they're a tiny little set not hidden away, but some vehicles still have that faux panel you remove to access the stuff. What if someone made a little container that fit in there and didn't rattle around? I think it'd be a hot little spot. That way I can keep my gun hidden and locked in the car, and separate from the ammo in the bag, but it's also right there and ready to go.

I know some places make magnets/loops/straps/etc that go under the dash, but that's basically not concealed here, so I'm looking for more creative and snky solutions

I keep a small amount of 9mm and 22r in my get home bag, in TEOTWAWKI or SHTF you might come across a toss down?
better to have it and not need it than...

In an unavoidable and unforeseeable event that requires interaction with law enforcement explaining why you have an ammo cache in you vehicle may be difficult at best and arrestable at worst.
I carry on person so I know exactly what I've got. I occasionally travel through NYC and NJ and would not want to get hung up (and subsequently out to dry) over a slight oversight on my part.

That's a good point, and also why I noted that keeping the ammo separated would probably happen. Also important to note, I won't drive to/through NYC/NJ at all, so I wouldn't have to worry about that.

Being ignorant of course, I'd probably be up front w/ the officer if I got pulled over. "Yes, there's a handgun safely locked and hidden away in the rear of the vehicle and the ammo for it is stored separately." Then again, that's a story for another day. For now just let me work on storing it

I've a got a keyed lock box under the seat of my truck bolted down they one of the seat bolts. It's for short term storage if I have to go in somewhere and can't carry. It could be easily found but there isn't much room under the seat so it would be difficult to do much to pry it out or break into it. Keep a bunch of ammo and mags in various areas of the truck. And I drive an old loud not pretty truck that most thieves probably wouldn't care about.

Pull off the interior panel in the car. Use a magnet to afix said forearm.

Reach up under the front seats and afix said firearm i the seat springs. Or in the seat back

Remove glove box. They usually will tip out withput tools. Store said forearm on top of heater box.

Use a magnet to store pistol to bottom of reat deck lid.

Store pistol in air box.

Store pistol on firewall

A good spot if you have a spare tire in a compartment in the back (inside the car) is under the spare, attached to the wheel.

I like all these ideas. I'd probably look for one of these spots to put the safe, so that it's not just "open" in the vehicle. In case someone does break in and is rummaging around, I wouldn't want them to find a pistol stuck to a magnet somewhere. Maybe magnet the safe in one of those spots.

Like @vanderblack said, under the spare would be an interesting spot, provided I didn't have to undo the screw holding the tire down each time.

If I did find a spot and just put it on a magnet for the time being, what are the chances of oxidation/corrosion?

now the arresting officer and Prosecutor get to decide what a "concealed/hidden compartment" is. If the LEO pulls my door panel off, is that now considered a hidden compartment.

Good point. If it's a factory location does that still count? I'm guessing so because it's still hidden, no matter what.

Eh, I'll worry about it when it comes up I guess. Until then, I'm gonna keep on thinking up a good solution

Now that's what I'm talking about! Simple, yet effective. Making use of the existing storage and making it better. Not get rid of the knob and add a recessed pull, and you can put a floor mat over it and you're g2g

If i were to hide anything, Id hide it in plain sight in a readily and inconspicuously accessible spot.
a coffee cup or thermos with spare mags in my cup holder or in a waste pail in the cab of my truck with apple cores and snotty tissues in it.

If you have to dismantle your dash or reach into the wheel well of your car you may be attracting some unwanted attention.

IMOthe thread was anout hiding a gun.....not CCW.

Different in my mind. I took the thread to mean someplace to put a gun that others dont find it in a break in or cursory search.

Yup, that's certainly part of it. If I'm gonna leave something in the vehicle, I want to have peace of mind that only I know where it is.

I'm not looking for those holsters that go on the side of your seat you can grab quick if you're in a seedy neighborhood. I wanna stash it so I can grab it with my GHB and be all set.

I have had 3 cars stolen. 2 unrecovered. So for me this is no option. I keep a Fatboy 50M ammo can ready to grab and go if I am at home. If not at home I have my CCW. If I dont have either...Oh well.

Cleck, what type of vehicle do you have? That may make a huge difference on what to use and where to hide. I have jeep Wrangler, few places in that.

Right now, I have an older Subaru Outback wagon. It has space for the spare tire, and tire tools/radio antenna motor. I already have an amplifier under my driver's seat.

I am planning on getting a truck sometime this year though, maybe I should wait until I acquire that, and see what options are available to me.

Yeah, that kinda sucks. I live in a neighborhood where that only happens because the people in this town are stupid enough to hide keys in their cars and then forget to lock their doors.

I've also had two cars stolen (parked) from me when I use to live in the city (never recovered.)
I don't leave anything that I consider valuable/important in my cars anymore.
