I choose to plan well ahead or otherwise leave the gun in the safe. I cannot stand the thought
of having the car stolen with a gun in it. That is a problem and not so much for the car if
is lost, there is insurance for that.
I don't go to many places I cannot carry and too often anyway.
When unarmed there is always the brain that is the ultimate weapon.
Situational awareness, having a plan, alternative tactics and self defense
methods. Those are also great things.

Even you NYers have more rights than I have, sure I get to play with naughty toys in my down time but that's only 3-4 days out of the month.

Someone might want to think what happens if your vehicle is stolen and your gun with it and
then people are murdered with your gun.

My point is that the chances of your vehicle being stolen at the time you just so happen to be storing your gun, concealed and secured mind you, while you pop into the post office, or what have you, are small. Your choices are your own, and I do not reproach you for them. But I do say your concerns on the matter do not invalidate the choice of temporarily securing an arm in a vehicle.

Honest question... Should police keep locked long guns in their cars? There have been more than a few stolen. Most likely because they thugs know there are guns in the car.
Yes. I say this not because I am bias. Most cop cars have either an AR or a shotgun (sometimes both) stored in them. Many times they are needed to accomplish their jobs.
I am a firm believer that all should be able to store guns, both long guns and handguns, loaded in their cars.

I would say yes. I am willing to bet that the ratio of stolen police weapons from squad cars to incidents where such arms, kept at the ready in squad cars, have been used to stop threats is favorable. I'd further wager that when those arms are secured and concealed in an unsuspecting private vehicle said ratio is even further into the favorable range.

Actually, I just didn't follow all of them. Someone wanted me to put a heater on the heater, someone had a sweet custom console w/ a beautiful AR in it, and there's some lone ranger going all over the US, pissing in the eye of local officials and carrying wherever he wants, cuz 'Merica.
I still want something, but for now I'll use my bag. The AlienGear holster holster (I guess that's what I'd call it) intrigues me. Just straight up mounting a holster to the inside works too, but I like the idea of the lockbox too. Find a way to secure it to the vehicle, much like the cable lock under the seat, and I've got a solid deal.

I take reasonable care to protect my guns from theft, but if my vehicle gets stolen with a gun in a locked compartment in it, I am going to be more upset about the laptop that was stolen. The criminals can get guns easily enough, and whoever gets that one would have found another. The laptop is much harder to replace, the gun would take a few hours, but getting my work laptop back into "fighting shape" takes days after an upgrade.
I keep a steel lockbox under the passenger seat secured with a cable lock in case I need to leave my gun. Anyone bringing enough tools to break into it will bring enough to break into whatever I use. If they take the whole vehicle, nothing you can do anyway. My conscience would be clear.
Also, I wanna clarify that I don't think @meketrefe is wrong in his assertions. Just trying to highlight the damned if we do, damned if we don't situation we gun owners find ourselves in nowdays. There is no right answer, just a coin flip.

I appreciate both sides, it's always good to hear what's the other side like. I have no problem with Meke either, he's right. Leaving a gun in a vehicle is definitely dangerous, and I would surmise only for people who really have a good system, or good habits. Still, shit happens, I realize that.
I just want to carry at work w/out really doing it. It sticks out when I sit down, since I tuck all my shirts in, and skinny guy carry is about 50lbs off, ha.
