I'm more seriously looking into a M35A2 the more I read on them. Kinda big for most people but I've spent most of my life driving tri-axle dump trucks, so lol. Even as big as they are, they are very simple and easily maintained and parts are readily available. The ones with a multi fuel engine will burn damn near anything, FREE fuel
I actually have a use for one right now so that helps.

I'd use it often too. Tow my boat and camp out of the back in the spring/summer/fall and haul my firewood in the fall/winter. I'm sure other uses would fall into place lol.

Always been something i have wanted. They are usually around $7000 or more when I do see them though. A bit pricey.

If you search around you can find them starting about $3500 or so. I think a lot of people who get them don't really realize just what they are getting into and decide to off them rather than sit around.

I will have to check that out. A house not far from me once had three of them in the yard. Not sure of they were for sale.

They aren't lacking for inventory! I wish he had some prices on there. I have a B CDL but I am not sure if you need one for these.

Yeah they have all sorts of cool stuff! I am going to take run to see them, they're only 25 minutes or so away from me. I canceled my CDL 6 years ago, but fortunately it's not needed for those trucks.

I should go too. Probably an hour and a half drive for me. The wife might like a day trip. I know my daughter would like to see those.

Too bad it'll offer zero protection from a small flee of 22lr bullets. I could disable that vehicle in SHTF with a small pocket knife in 5 minutes. It's not armored, so what good is it compared to any other truck? Something like that would be the last thing I'd want to travel in or on. You're paying a lot of money for an over sized Hollywood prop shell.

May have found my new truck. I was looking at a couple M35A2's but they sold before I coud get out to check them out. I found a CUCV M1008A1 in Pa. that has 36k miles and is pretty solid. Basically a square body Chevy pickup with a 1 1/4 ton suspension, Dana 60 front axe, Dana 80 rear axe w/Detroit locker set up for radio equipment. They are really stout trucks and will also run on WVO or WMO, so still easy to fuel.. Will be going to check it out on the 22nd. The guy has a whacked work schedule so I can't get out there sooner.

The ad is expired now but if I remember correctly I think it started life as a 9** series. Basically a 5ton M35, he just dropped a pickup cab on it and Mad Max'd it.

Sure will! It's gonna need a master cylinder, windshield, and tires but I have no problem with that. Actually like that it needs tires, that way I can put what I need on it to start with. It's got a fiberglass cap on it now but I'll probably leave it there throughout the winter to keep the snow and crap out of the bed. I know someone who has a drop on aluminum radio body so I may see if he'll sell it. If not, the canvas troop covers and bows are readily available.
It's 2 hours away so I'm hoping I don't find issues that I don't like with it. Will have to arrange another trip to go pick it up, or he said he may be able to deliver it.
Basically, as long as the engine/trans are as he states, and the axles/suspension are good to go I'll be happy with it. It's OD Green still, but if I bring it home it will get the rest of her dress this spring and be proper camo.

My 1st choice would always be a supped up dirt bike to get on and off roads. For those that think the roads are going to be open and beautiful to travel LLOLOL!! Yes, nobody really knows, but just look at any place in the world that has mass evacuations, nobody moves, now compound that with people abandoning their vehicles in any direction and place they run out of gas at..at least with a dirt bike you're bobbing and weaving through, on and off road. Hide it, stash it, come back to it..

If all else fails, next choose @Robin mode of transportation ..

The dirt bike makes a lot of sense, you can only drive a car until the roads are blocked and even a 4x4 can't get into some places. The other thing I would fear is that if you have too nice a rig, you'll be more of a target than someone who can stick to the edges and move quick and light.

I have to agree, a dirt bike should be in the mix. I would just as soon have one in the back of my truck, mostly because I'm physically limited on what I can carry. Heavy BOB is pretty much out. But with the right truck and the right off road experience you can get a loooong ways from anyone. Then use the bick for runs back and forth from scavenging. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 12, in highschool I had a duel sport Honda I rode everywhere. Including winter when I would stud the knobbies with sheet metal screws. Haven't ridden since I wiped my back out though. I wouldn't mind having another Honda XR, but can never go back to riding hard tail Triumphs Or even stock Triumphs for that matter.

Dual sport motorcycles offer mobility and the ability to transport gear and a passenger. For instance a Yamaha XT250 will roll at 70 mph on a highway, yet will work fine on back country trails. I picked up a hitch carrier, since the bike weighs under 300 lbs., I can carry it on the back of my Jeep. I've got hard cases, so I can carry plenty of gear, plus a rear rack for extra carrying capacity, and for extra fuel cells. I've used the dual sport bike for camping trips, and for general off road exploring. The next step up from the dual sport is my two wheel drive Ural motorcycle with sidecar. The Ural is excellent off road, and has a large carrying capacity. It can be rode year round, and its simple design makes it easy to repair, and best of all there's a mount for a machine gun on the front of the sidecar!
