I just saw the video. It really fucked me up. It was a little, non-aggressive dog just walking around occasionally barking in a non threatening manner. If it were my dog, I'd be dead too. That's all I have to say about that.

I got more balls then that LEO .. every weekend i have to deal with my buds Great Dane and he is only like 9 months old now ..
he knows how to smack you in the face with his paws or grab your hair and take you down ., i'm only 5'3 , 150 and 50* yrs old and this dog is a ASS playing
not to mention his damn tail that will cock slap you good on a walk by ..
when i show up this dog on all 4's can just put his head on my shoulder for a hug he is that tall now ..

In the small community I live in ive cared for 4 dogs shot by cops.
All 4 of these dogs were friendly barkers, not aggresive.
Ive also cared for 1 aggresive dog shot by cops.......a 10lb Dachshund mix.

I deal with aggresive animals for a living, some as big as 2000 lbs and ive never had to kill a 9 lb dog.
There are situations where cops need to defend themselves from a vicious dog but in 25 years ive seen very, very few situations where shooting was needed.
Youre a cop, your job is dangerous, if youre afraid of a small family dog, get a new job.....im sure the local Walmart is hiring.
Its disgusting to see all these police departments making policies to shoot ANY dog that barks or growls.

The story does have a somewhat happy ending - the poor dog did survive, but needs several more surgeries - and the townspeople have offered up a ton of cash to pay for it. I would be willing to bet that that asshat is looking for a new address in a different state - hell, maybe even a new name.
