I'm not going to bother with M855 as I've got the 64gr Gold Dots for barrier penetration and the 77gr OTM for long range and maximum soft target terminal effect.

I agree. It was nice when one could buy a 10K round crate a lot cheaper. today is not such a great deal anymore.

Politics and lack of focus killed good firearms forums. We know that from experience.
For me personally have less interest in politics every day. I am tired of it. It was nice before the election and post
election for a while but right now it sucks big time.
The other aspect is the amount of time one ends up wasting online in the first place.
So we should use it wisely.

If we fill the jar with sand there is no room for anything else!

I may be a victim of my own statement. I've been look at YouTube videos on 300 AAC Blackout.
I have two ARs. I may trade one 5.56 upper for a 300 AAC barrel/receiver . I know getting a silencer in this state is impossible.
Maybe get it done in 2nd home state VA.

Personally I think the only real reason to get 300 blackout is to run suppressed, failing that 5.56 has more energy and a flatter trajectory, not to mention way waaay cheaper!

There are a couple more reasons than that. The energy levels depend upon what distance and load you are looking at as well. Under 200 the 300 usually beats out the 5.56 for energy. But hey, it is all about taste, some people like it some don't. my Blackouts probably will never see a suppressed round and they see more range time than my 223/5.56s because they are fun.

The cost is another thing depending upon the load you are looking at my 300 loads are much cheaper than my 223 loads. I won't be putting Bergers in my 300 but I do in my 223.

I shoot a lot of oddball calibers, 5.7x28, 38 Super, 41 Mag, 35 Rem, 300BLK, 6.5 CM they all have their pros and cons, fan boys and haters. You just got to be able to separate the trash talk from the propaganda.

Resurrecting this thread to point out something I'd not considered till recently.
For training classes most ranges/instructors don't want 62gr M855 being used which leaves 55gr M193 as the only other practical choice for such endeavours. I suppose that goes for matches too but I don't think anyone is using bulk surplus ammo for competition.

Actually the 62gr fmj and opt are very popular in both steel and brass versions and because of the extra power faxtor. It depends on the scoring system too. 75gr hpbt are very affordable like those from Priv bulk deals.
For general purppse the lc m193 is great but also consider the extra heat vs a milder civilian version like pmc that is 300 fps slower.

Since I'vent learned from your tables that 55gr is flatter out to 400 yards I may revert to 55gr for target practice. I like the IMI M193 quite a lot. I still wanna try that 55gr hornady remanufactured stuff Bullet Guy recommended me. I just didn't think it appropriate to bring a 1000 rounds of reman ammo I have no prior experience with to a class. I also still need to try some of the 75gr loads. I won't bother with a comparo till I have a scope on the AR though. Red dot is not the best optic for such hair splitting comparisons. Unless someone else would like to post some comparison threads.

I think short of the forbidden M995, 5.56 is pretty piss poor at armor pen regardless. It's one of the reasons I want a 7.62x51 semi auto to round out my arsenal. But they are so, so freakin' expensive!

Makes sense.. for general practice and tipical defense one gets whatever the best deals and surplus or remanufactured is a good way. I used to buy them 2 or 3k at the time and anything in brass below 300 for 1k used to be a decent deal before Obama started. The same were 150 a few years earlier but those days are long gone. LC is very reliable so ok for defense too.
When ubuntu took office the demand went up and prices went crazy.
These things is better to stock up when demand is down and prices are right.... like anything else I guess.

Also see if a friend wants to buy a pallet.it makes more sense to have 2 rifles and 40k rounds than 10 rifles and 500 rounds of ammo. Like a car wo gas, a rifle wo ammo is useless.
Negotiate with a bulk supplier and keep in mind that prices only go up from here so even if one does not compete will save substantial dollars by planning. Also check local ordinances for ammo and powde storage caps.

Slap! Lol Close distances ok. Put 300 yards and nope! ....but also nobody sane wants to be hit with anything, not even a 22lr since it can easiky kill you too.

well those military rounds dont shoot well out of my Mini14, but 223 is notably more accurate and cheaper. that never usually is the case.
I just wish i could shoot it more.
my range is only Pistol and 22 rifles.

why not? "reman" ammo means they used a fired case. if it was a new case it would be called new.

if your class requires any kind of accuracy you are crazy not to get the modern munitions stuff. if it is just up close paper punching and carbine handling intro then dont worry about.

it is the best ammo at some of the best prices you will get. they use the same formula that i use for my hand loads. as a result i have stopped loading my own, and use M stuff. not one single issue with the 1500 i have shot so far.

i primarily shoot steel far and fast. this ammo is perfect.....and it groups well if you have the patience to shoot paper off a bag.

Some places have "no reman" policies right? I've used the IMI M193 before and I know what to expect. I gather this will be a shorter range shoot n' move style class and as you say I won't matter much in this case. Also I am quite confident in my ability to hit targets out to 200yds from a variety of stances, just not in little cloverleafs.
But I'll be purchasing some of that other stuff too. Both 5.55 and 9mm. I would use that as my range/target ammo. I plan on ordering 1k of each by my next range opportunity in October.
