I look at a FOID card as a form of hidden/backdoor gun registration. If New Yorkistan wants to in the future tax, seize, confiscate etc your guns all they have to do is pull up the FOID database. I feel the same way about hunting licenses because they are now on a computerized database and the assumption can be that if you buy a license you probably own at least one gun.

Instead "a permanent marking on the individuals body with a unique government issued identification marker that can be scanned at the point of purchase". I still state on record that in my opinion hillary won't immediately come for our guns. I think she will try to stop ammo sales first and make it extremely miserable to procure new ammo or reloading supplies. Not sure how she will but I think it's in her playbook.

If you don't own a pistol permit, this FOID Card will alert the state that you own firearms if you get the card just the same as if you get a hunting license or Pistol Permit. If you don't want the state to know that you are a firearms owner, you can refuse to get it and get ammo elsewhere out of state just the same as you would have if the original background check system was funded and in place.

This limbo that we are in in regards to the background check system wasn't going to last forever.

However, I'm assuming you own a pistol permit correct? If you own a pistol permit, they already know you own guns so what good is not getting this card and thus not being able to order ammo? You already got a card identifying you as a gun owner.

I don't agree with any of this nonsense but we already declared ourselves as firearms owners when we got our hunting licenses and pistol permits.

The way this card works in other states is you flash the card to the clerk when you buy ammo or fax a copy to the online ammo distributer you order from who already has your name, address, and credit card information.

If it works the same as in other states, it would be foolish not to get one if you already own a pistol permit and or hunting license.

I don't get the enough is enough point when you already declared yourself as a firearms owner through other means. They already know unless you just buy long guns and do nothing with them except shoot them at the range.

between us 3 we spent like 1500 there .. i got a free FOID card some how LOL ..
just shows the peanut brain size are officials have ... LOL

It must be an error on their part then. I have both a NY and a CT Permit and have used my CT Permit to order ammo to a buddies house in CT before I knew about the few online companies that still ship here to NY.

So I too must have a FOID card on file at cheaperthandirt.com or Midway.com I would imagine because they wouldn't complete the transaction unless I faxed them a copy.

Many here, and The Place we shall not name, have been saying for a very long time that more from the State was coming. Many have been warning and telling all who would listen to buy, buy and buy. Stock up on all that you want and need. There were a many of gun owners in NY that balked at the idea things would get worse.

If I never buy another round of ammo, I would still never run out.

I post on this site, I order accessories online, and for a dozen other reasons, I am sure I am on the NYS radar, if they were ever to try a mass roundup. Rosa parks sat in the back every day until she didn't, that is the point.

Do you really think they are going to get their feathers in a ruffle because you don't get a card and in 2 weeks time add another amendment to your pistol permit?

You can't equate Rosa Parks with this. It's not even in the same league. She risked arrest. Not getting the card is risking nothing.

Not to be argumentative ....

FOID cards (or cards that perform the same function but are called by a different name) are in effect in Mass, Ct, NJ, Illinois, and Maryland just to name a few.

Coming soon for certain in California, NYS is just speculation at this point but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the coming year.

Can anyone provide me with concrete examples of where a FOID card was used to "register" long guns, used as an identification tool for confiscation, or for ANY other registration database as it would pertain to "keeping track of who bought what caliber ammunition and how much they purchased?"

If not....we're hand wringing as usual. If so....I'll stand corrected.

I'm always "impressed" by those who stand on the soapbox and declare that "Big Brother has NO business knowing their personal life, purchase habits, and what they own."

Clue you in on a little something....if you have a pistol permit, drivers license, professional license, college degree, own property, pay property/school taxes, have registered to vote, protested at your local school board meeting, participate in social media, POST ON A PRO-GUN FORUM....guess what...THEY ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT YOU.

I no longer care what they know. That horse has already left the barn. I'm interested in seeing what people will do (or NOT do) if and when their predictions come true and the confiscation efforts begin. If past precedent is an indication, based upon our inability to get off our asses and vote our 2nd Amendment rights...all we'll end up with is a lot of hot air.

FOID is the lesser of several evils that allows us to keep ammo in hand...ammo that may be sorely needed someday for something other than deer/waterfowl hunting and target practice.

How THAT'S a bad thing is well beyond me...
