Ha! That is just the factory Daniel Defense grip. I swaped the furniture between the two rifles so I could mount the Larue cheek riser onto the CTR stock that is now on the DD (scoped one) rifle
They sell em separately, also as a furniture set. It's purdy.
Thanks!
I dunno about Streamlight anymore if muzzle blast can kill one.
Yeah, I have the Thrym Clens as well, but that’s only for carbon, gun powder, and dirt that dirties the lens like tear away stickers. The link I sent actually slides over and protects the lens. So your light’s lens won’t break from taking siminution rounds or even some impacts of hitting it up against something.Thyrm "Clens"

For the price, I like the HL-X. I have one and use it everyday at work as one of my handhelds. It has better candela than the Surefire M600DF. Plus it can be used with the plethora of aftermarket scout mounts. You can also get the Arisaka adapter and it allows you to run Surefire style pressure pads instead of the Streamlight one if you wanted to. So you can grab one of the ModButtons when they come back in stock very soon and use that with the Arisaka adapter. Then you’ll be that much slower to having a pressure pad setup for you Modlite when you buy it.And i know @Podmonkey mentioned to shy away from the Protac HL-X but I think im going with that on my Saiga build, as just a hold over until I can justify the purchasing of a Modlite
Oh yea I thought you were saying something I've mentioned before.. but thats the only product I remember bringing up so thats why I mentioned it again lol

I saw that new 7” rail from RS Regulate. I went with an SLR rail and gas tube set. Another company that makes really hard use rail sets that get used by Russian SF Alpha Group is Zenitco. They’re stuff is pretty nice too. One other company that I can think of that makes some really nice rails for AK’s are Sureshot Armament Group.Yea i need to figure all that stuff out haha.. so far I've settled on the Haley Strategic Thorntail 2 for the mount so I can mount it to the Ultimak rail and get it as far forward as possible, (working on pressure pad situation next) but once I get the RS regulate handguard (going with the new 7" one) that will give me a spot to put the pressure pad on the lower handguard and out of the way.
But being able to use that modbutton would reduce the real-estate needed and thats a good thing

Hmmm, SLR has rails that let you keep the factory handguard retainer. A section of the rail is milled away to allow for the factory handguard retainer to not interfere with the rail.Yea i have always wanted a fully done ak with all Zenitco but not rich soo hahha. And I emailed SLR to see if they had a shorter rail that would be similar to the standard handguards they said the shortest i should go would be their 9" but id lose the sling loop on the handguard retainer, not a big deal but then saw the RS 7" and I think it fits the bill perfectly.. trying to keep the front end a light as possible

I’m not sure how you want your AK setup but I like the ability of being able to push the light as far forward as possible to allow as much of the light that’s coming out of the front end to become usable light and doesn't end up hitting the side of the weapon and casting shadows. So having a rail that goes past the handguard retainer is nice. I believe I know someone that has an HL-X on a HSP Thorntail. I’ll see if I can get some pics of it, even though it is on an AR.Yea their 10.5" one is like that and that was my original choice
Also not sure if you saw but we do have a Kalash thread as I notice you also seem to be a fan of that pattern of rifle

if you are definitely going with the shorter new RS Regulate Rail, is Mount it to the Ultimak since it allows you to mount it further out. But if you were to swap it with a longer rail like one of the longer SLR rails that has the cut out for the handguard retainer, you could get one of the Mlok versions and mount it to a different rail that goes further out than the Ultimak.Yea thats my main goal and why im going with the bigger thorntail all the way up on the ultimak, should put the HL-X right about inline with the saiga front sight post but also putting me in the need for a pressure pad vs tail cap (also id like the light on the outside? Right side of the rifle)

Even if you chose the longer RS Regulate 10” rail, it looks like the longer one only weight something like 5.9oz instead of the 3.6oz 7” one that you are looking at. I do get about trying to keep it lighter but I think the added benefit of the additional tailYea i just figure the longer rail would add a little extra weight and im trying to keep it as not front heavy as possible.
Surefire is definitely better than Streamlight. But with the progression of technology and other companies creating better products, Modlite and Cloud Defensive both have lights that beat Surefire depending on what type of light you’re choosing. That’s not saying Surefire is bad, cause that’s not the case. Surefire is absolutely still a really good light choice but It’s no longer the early 2000’s where Surefire was leading the industry. As it stands today, Surefire has definitely been dethroned as the king of lights. Surefire can’t say they’re leading the pack right now, until they decide to step their game up a little bit.I used to get streamlight and surefire.
Now its surefire or nothing. When my life is on the line $20 is nothing.
