What sights for HD shotgun?

In all seriousness, in my home for example my bedroom is second level to left of staircase my eleven year old's bedroom is to right on opposite side of house. There is a bathroom between his room and guest room with hallway. As BG is coming up stairs and if I'm lucky enough to be up, with HD gun in hand, top of stairway puts BG directly between the hot end of the barrel and my sleeping boy. Do I point and shoot or aquire a sight picture? Serious question.

i would look into where can i be to not put both in the line of fire , just the intruder .. where is kids bed ?? should it be moved to another spot in the room ?? . what ammo choice ? .. maybe not a 12ga . a 410 with HD ammo ?? .. lots of choice ... and like i said above . i just have a brass bead ..
and use it for deer hunting too , i'm good out to 50yds .. anything under like skeet its just natural point of aim , practice practice let brain take over n muscle memory .. your getting woken up , your brain is fuzzy , KISS ..

Trapdoor in the hall outside the bed rooms, with punji stakes on the floor below (in the living room ?). Could be an interesting bedtime ritual, some people turn on the alarm, you spread out the murder stakes

@GOYABEAN gave me the idea .. will split the $$$ .. new stickers for homes .. all windows and doors protected with claymore's .. no need for for ADT ..

For those that haven't been through any training and carry the shotgun at the hip without a stock like below, you don't need a sight as @Darth has said.

Those who have had some level of training know that for maximum probability of a hit, when walking down hallways or rooms, you keep your long gun at the high ready when a threat is eminent. Wherever you head goes, the barrel goes along with your sight. This also applies for shotguns with no stocks as well. Doing this reduces the time to acquire a target since the target would already be in your line of sight along with the bead, red dot, ect.

Trap shooters break clay at 40 yards without sights. Unless I'm shooting slugs I find ghost rings inhibitive. Tactical flashlight and laser so you don't have to bring the shotty up to the eyes. At 10 yards the shot pattern is about 30" diameter. My preference in the house is 7.5 shot, 4 shot, 2 shot or #4 buckshot.

What are you shooting from an inverted funnel lol?

Seriously within home distances shot pattern should be very tight even with no choke.

Shooting at clays and humans are two completely different things. You are engaging at clays at a range where there has been significant expansion of the the pattern and you are only needing to put a fraction of those hundreds of pellets on target. For HD your target is likely to be at close range where the pattern of shot has not expanded hardly at all yet and you are needing to put all of a handful of larger pellets on target.
