You can also get one in 308 so ammo costs shouldn’t really be a concern. I almost bought one in 308 and finally decided to go with the traditional chambering.
Drats! My club isn't affiliated with CMP. Looks like the price of the m1 just went up, lol.Yes the certificate you received is part of it, you also need to be a member of an affiliated Club.

This is a common point of contention , the CMP advises you can shoot commercial loads as long as they are under 180 gn. No shuster needed. If you get the Garand get a schuster vented gas plug for it. The ammo isn’t really anymore expensive for the garand than it is for the M14. Reloading will cost you a few cents more per round Over the 308.
There are quite a few ammo makers making ammo specifically for the Garand.
This is untrue. It's not about the bullet weight, it's about the pressure curve. This is a common point of contention , the CMP advises you can shoot commercial loads as long as they are under 180 gn. No shuster needed.
Says so in the booklet they send with every rifle.
I have only shot surplus hxp in mine , but will take 150 soft points if I ever decide to hunt it.
I just bought a Pc Carbine to compliment my SR9c.Ok how bout the PCC and an SR 9 to go with it? That’s what I’m contemplating right now

I've learned to embrace the semiautomatic Fudd guns.
I have a mini14 already and the Ruger American Ranch bolt action that takes AR mags (super sweet gun). If I go the PCC9 I will most likely sell my AR9 to fund it. I don't necessarily believe the AWB's are here to stay though, so I'm on the fence about it.I vote the Ruger PCC. These AR laws aren't going away. Get yourself the PCC followed by the Garand and then a .233 with a traditional grip like a Mini or Saiga.

What grade is your Garand?I voted for the Garand. It's a great gun and piece of history. I got one from CMP this past spring and I love it. I second the recommendation above to replace the gas plug. I try to shoot only Garand approved ammo, but I replaced the gas plug anyway just to be safe in case I ever want to try something with more pressure.
