Can you belive I have never owned a revolver? There is something appealing about a heavy framed .357 revolver. An ideal balance of power and control. And very classy. Will the 686+ be your first revolver? If so , you couldn’t have picked a better revolver and caliber to pop your cherry !
That IS messed up I agree and I can’t argue with that logic. I will say this though. If you do decide to go with the 686+ I’d gladly send you a box ea. of .357 & .38According to Ammo Seek the cheapest .357 AND .38 available is $1. That ain't good. 7.62x39 can be had for half that. What kind of messed up situation is this that rifle ammo is cheaper than handgun ammo?
I do have somewhat of a defensive carbine surplus. 2 Galil Aces, 2 ARs...... The AK, oddly enough, would be more of a plinker however. If this would be your first revolver, get the revolver. Ammo for it won't always be more expensive. If you don't have one, the S&W 686+ with a 4" barrel is pretty perfect. It can do most things you can ask a revolver to do. Everything from self-defense, concealed carry, woods protection, target shooting, hunting small to medium game at close range, and just taking it out and admiring it.
I'm willing to bet you already have at least one, and probably more than one, "life and liberty" rifle.

You should get a Dan Wesson 715/15-2 or a ruger GP100 so you don’t have to worry about it breaking if you shoot too much 357Can you belive I have never owned a revolver? There is something appealing about a heavy framed .357 revolver. An ideal balance of power and control. And very classy.
However the AK has the advantage of fairly high availability of ammo at some of the lowest prices for any center fire cartridge currently.
I should see what .357/.38 availability is bit if anything like 9mm then that is no good.
686 will take a full diet of .357 magnums. The GP100 is beefier because it is made from a casting so it needs to extra material to equal a forged frame like the 686. The GP100 is a good gun, perhaps superior as a utility piece but the 686 is just Sexier. Sexiest of all would be a Python but even the new ones are hard to get hold of and they are not cheap. You should get a Dan Wesson 715/15-2 or a ruger GP100 so you don’t have to worry about it breaking if you shoot too much 357
Aside from the fact that it’s a cool gun , Why 9mm ?S&W 929 from the performance center.
Because he already has a gun chambered in 9mmAside from the fact that it’s a cool gun , Why 9mm ?
Practical for sure but , booooring. He needs to expand his horizons a little . Everyone should own at least One magnum revolver !Because he already has a gun chambered in 9mm
Yup, the Alaskan model is one hell of a hunk of steel for a magnum belly gun. If you don’t kill what you’re shooting at with one you could use it to bludgeon them to death.
I agree, however looking at the times we are in would make me pause about adding a new caliber to the stable. Besides a .41 Magnum is the way to go If you are looking for excitement.Practical for sure but , booooring. He needs to expand his horizons a little . Ahh hell, I add new calibers to the stable all the time. The ammo issue won’t last for ever. I do agree though, The S&W model 57 and 657 are fine .41 mag. I have a 657, 610 and, 625 along with a few other revolvers. I am looking at the 929 for my next revolver. Maybe I will order one in June. The S&W model 57 and 657 are fine .41 mag. Revolvers
I’m really Jonesing for a 610. I’ve pretty much made up my mind that that will be my next revolver purchase, sometime very soon.I have a 657, 610 and, 625 along with a few other revolvers. I am looking at the 929 for my next revolver. Maybe I will order one in June.
Thats a great gun....I dont have one but I love my GP100 3 inch 357 mag.
I considered the S&W 686 but I could not see the $200 price difference and dont like the hammer lock device on all new 686s.....which HAVE failed. And yes, that is my serial number.....have at it!!
