Which gun should I get next poll.

I agree, however looking at the times we are in would make me pause about adding a new caliber to the stable. Besides a .41 Magnum is the way to go If you are looking for excitement.

Had a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Mag back in the 1980's. Great combination of power and reasonable recoil.

Today's ammo selection for .41 Mag ain't great tho. Seems to have really fallen out of favor. Reloading is just about a must nowadays.

I have kinda set my mind on the 686 at this point. We all know however my mercurial nature may see that changed at any moment. I did ask my LGS to call me the next time a 686+ shows up on the shelf. I would hope that by the very nature of revolvers I could savor a $50 box of ammo for much longer than I would for an automatic. 50 rounds in an automatic lasts for all 5 minutes for me.

You might well save ammo. I actually find revolvers really nice and fun training tools, especially for limited ammo training. I tend to use them specifically to work on fundamentals.

I do almost all of my dry fire with a revolver in double action and for me it's the best trigger control training I do. It's definitely strengthened my trigger finger and cleaned up my trigger pull with every other gun as well.

On top of that, I love the Russian Roulette drill. Without looking, I load the cylinder with fewer rounds than it holds and give it a spin. Then take aim and pull the trigger on target as many times as the revolver's capacity. I have to expect a round to go off with every shot, so I can't get as lazy as with dry firing. With every empty chamber I hit, I note several things. Am I still focused on the front sight or did I shift focus to the target, ruining my follow-through? Did my front sight bounce or did the alignment get messed up as the trigger broke? Did I flinch or am I anticipating? Using this drill as a warm-up, I tend to have a much better range session. As a cool-down it helps me ID what issues I likely had during my practice and should focus on before my next range session.

Don’t forget to Pick up a few speed loaders while you’re at it.
I’ve got my eye on a 686+ with 3” barrel right now. I’ve Really been Jonesing for a S&W mod. 610 in 10mm but damned if I can grab one at a reasonable price. I’ve been out bid at the last minute three different times now. So the the 686 + is going to be my consolation prize to myself until I can find a 610 that I can afford.
