Actually I have done some research on this very thing. There is substantial overlap between the .357 and 10mm in terms of power. In factory loadings the 10mm had the edge but when handloading the extra case capacity ultimately allows the .357 to pull ahead again.
In the end I'd say the two cartridges are evenly matched.

Well the .357 can load up to a 200gr bullet and it has greater case capacity than the 10mm.

I like the 10mm better in this application myself.
But there is a very entertaining novelty in a 1911 chambered in .357 mag. And the performance between the two is close enough as to make no difference. The Dan Wesson is the more logical and practical choice but the Coonan has more of the gotta have it charm about it. I dunno, unlike most of the polls I do I really could go either way.

Beautiful yes. But certainly the Coonan is equally so?
The main strike against the Coonan for me is the fact it uses a pivoting trigger. The straight back movement of the classic 1911 trigger is a big part of the design's egronomic appeal no?

That definitely tilts things in the Coonan's favor then. Not to mention they are for sale in my Favorite LGS but the Dan Wessons are not.
The got some Wilson Combats and Les Baers though. Fuck spending 3k+ on a pistol though, thats SCAR 17 money! Or Python money, which are also in relative abundance at that very same LGS.
