I actually like "1911" style guns, but for what they are collecting / range fun / high end race guns (granted I do think the CZ lends it self to a nicer gammer gun, the 1911 style is also a good base to build a super fast gun off of)

So you could say that the coonan could fall under range gun since OP did mention that's the main reason along with BBQ gun (which is another category a "1911" would be acceptable imho)

The competitions I have been to the majority of the open class guys are using 1911s, the CZs are the high end of the production classes that 1911s are not allowed to compete in. Here in NYS I would much rather carry a 1911 than a G17 If I wanted to carry a full sized pistol. Imo 9 rounds of 45 trumps 11 of 9mm. Not to mention a 1911 shoots much petter than a Glock or similar.

Look at the take down and reassembly. Technically it’s not really a 1911.

Oh, I was able to handle that Coonan too. Excellent trigger and the whole thing feels solid and tight. The grip is enormous though. Cant get to the mag release without completely shifting my grip to a very high degree. Its actually easier to just hit it with the thumb of the supporting hand. As a range toy this is fine.

Yeah a shitty one that will cost me 5 times as much in repairs over the year. I want something reliable that I won't have to worry about for a while. I just don't have time for taking a vehicle into a shop for repairs. I'm gonna have to spend at least 10k for a decent vehicle. I am just about caught up one me debts. Once my credit cathes back up I'll get a car.

I have that problem with a lot of guns. Stubby thumbs I guess. Kimber micros I can hit the slide release. I have a bobble stacked 1911 and I can’t hit the slide release either. I want a 2011 STI, but I can’t find one around here to handle. I’m thinking of going to one as a carry gun, but I’m worried I won’t be able to hit the slide release. I shoot a 1911 way better than those striker fired guns.

I like the new ruger lightweight carry commander I think it is. Some of the Springfield 1911’s are nice. And yes hold on to your hats guys, I would buy a 9mm 1911.
