Who Has an SCR???

I've read the reviews and for the money this should be all I need to get started; thank you for the heads up; I just bought one online for instore pickup.I'll try to figure out which scope rings once I get the SCR.

I bought one of these for my SCR( which should arrive this coming Monday evening). Does anyone know what mounting rings/hardware I need for it? I'm anxious to mount the scope as soon as possible and I'm not sure I'll know how to figure this out. It's the Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 BDC Rifle Scope.( or can some one explain how I figure this out?)

@DrTom You will need 1" rings of medium height for a 40mm scope. Your FFL receiving the rifle should be able to help you out with mounting the scope. Have Safe/Fun Shooting!!

Well I've got my hearing protection ,eye protection, plenty of ammo, a range case to carry all my stuff,a new hard case for the SCR and a scope. I've been studying up on indoor range etiquette on YouTube. I am planning to go visit my local range once to introduce myself and review the range rules before I actually go there to shoot. I just want to make sure that I don't do anything stupid and am as safe as possible for all the other people around me.

Unfortunately the only piece of gear I don't have yet is my SCR that I won on an auction 2 weeks ago that was shipped to me via the USPS and seems to have disappeared into a black-hole some where between KY and NY. !!! The USPS has stopped updating its whereabouts 2 days ago and you can't call and speak to anyone about it and their email system is down when trying to make an inquiry!!

What I've done is ordered another SCR on auction and had it shipped overnight.It just arrived at my FFL and I'm going to pick it up in about 2 hrs. I contacted the the original seller and we're working on the refund. The USPS really messed this one up big time;they still haven't updated where it is since Dec.5th with no ability to find out any further information!! Yikes ;I won't be shipping anything of any value via USPS any more. (The seller has been great to work with and was not at fault).

I picked up my Monte Carlo lower two hours ago. I am impressed. Waiting for my upper parts and bolt catch to show up in the mail, but I snagged mine from Brownells with the 11% off coupon. I can’t wait to build this one.

Wouldn't you know it; I picked up my 2nd SCR last night since the USPS had lost the first one and I just got a notice from the USPS that the original SCR has just been delivered to my FFL.

I now know what my wife is getting for Xmas. I wasn't intending on owning 2 firearms this early in this hobby/adventure but after just seeing the first own I'm not disappointed at the prospects of having two!

I've already installed the bolt catch and at least partially disassembled the SCR so I'm starting to feel a little comfortable with this whole gun thing.

I appreciate everyones help up to this point ; I'm still less than a novice and I'll still be needing your guidance, so stay tuned.

The second SCR came with Nikon P-223 3-9x40 BDC 600 scope with the nikon P series mounts Nikon P Series Scope Mount
This makes the charging handle hard to get at. I believe these are cantilever mounts and should solve this problem?(like I know what I'm talking about????). Is it possible that the scope was mounted too close? and I need to adjust it?Thank you.

Answered my own question, new question and Update:

Well I made it out to my local indoor range yesterday( Welcome to Wolcott Guns Inc. ). Its a 25 and 50 yd. indoor range. I only had a little time so didn't spend a whole lot of time there.(before going there I watched a few videos on range etiquette so I didn't make a complete fool out of myself). I also explained to them that I hadn't handled a rifle since I was ten yrs.old.

Very nice people there ; one of the younger guys (I'm 66 so every one is younger) took my out ; maked sure I felt safe;explained how to set up the target and run the targets system ;helped me load my rifle for the first time ; made sure I was comfortable firing the first few rounds ;helped me set up my scope (It wasn't even hitting the target at 10 yds) . After I was good at 25 yds ; he helped me set up the scope for 50yds. Then it was time for me to leave.

My first impressions: I wasn't totally prepared for how loud this gun is in an indoor setting! and the power behind this round. My only other experience with a rifle was a 22 caliber and I was 10 years old ; so this made quite an impression on me !!! I continue to be impressed how friendly everyone in the gun store and the range are . That includes the employees and all the customers;Everyone friendly and helpful and engaging.

So I still remain well below novice level; but I'm not as anxious about going to the range. I did have one round jam in my last magazine and had to seek help to clear it ; but I now know how to do that also .

I'm having a hard time holding the rifle steady even when resting it on the table when shooting at 50 yds. It it acceptable to use resting bags at an indoor range?

It all depends on the range rules at the place you are shooting. Most places I have shot at had no issues with bags on the platforms.

you may need to move the scope forward, depending on the eye relief requirements.

Post a pic when you get a chance. I’m missing a bolt and gas tube and a wrench to finish mine up.

Thank you. I found that since I had added the accessory bolt catch to this rifle, its not as big a problem as I thought it was going to be. The bolt catch holds the chamber open after the last round so I don't have to constantly reach the charging handle as I thought I would have to.

Hey everyone! I have an SCR as well, I’d like to maybe get a different upper(or three)...I’m curious how to get around the BCG. I’m a bit of a newb when it comes to AR platforms. My current set up is a sporter stock, 12” keymod handguard(I couldn’t stand the short Magpul one that came with the rifle), and I topped it off with a Nikon P233. Nothing crazy, but I’d like to get a little more versatility out of it.

It is a threaded barrel with a pinned thread protector.

If you are referring to the bolt carrier being different vs a standard AR, you can use any upper and bolt and the SCR proprietary bolt carrier and you are good to go.

Thanks for the reply! Ok, so that would require either disassembly of my existing carrier from the bolt, or buy a carrier from Fightlight(Ares)?

Then I assume I need caliber specific magazines as well?!

@DrTom It should work you would just need to get scope rings tall enough.

I live in NC and I still want one of these. They just look cool. I genuinely like my Saiga Sporter more than the WASR. I just like traditional stocked modern semi autos.

Nah, the saiga means you can't use the AK the way it was intented (changing mags and running the charging handle with the right hand) unless you have crazy long arms.

Funny you should say that.Since I was worried about the getting at the charger handle because of the scope(before I knew it wasn't going to be a big issue because of the bolt catch), I ordered a red dot scope for my second SCR .I'll probably mount it over the weekend.

Here is my 2nd SCR with a Strikefire II Red Dot Scope and VMX-3T 3 X magnifier. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to the range this week or not; but when I do I'll let you know how I make out.

The bolt catch for this one should be arriving today ;as you can see it doesn't have one yet.

Any suggestions for a lockable rifle cabinet/safe for the 2 SCR's with scopes ? I'd prefer a combinations lock(or even biometric to avoid key lock). Not really looking for a heavy duty safe; just something to keep kids out of that we could keep in the bedroom or walk-in closet.Thanks for any suggestions.
