Everyone here knows (or should know), the only opinion that matters to me is my own. Hell, it didn't take long for my 1st and 2nd wives to understand that, the current wife got it right off the bat (meant in a preverbal way not a battered wife kind of way).

Were you using FMJ or soft points though? Those 154gr SPs Cabellas sells under the Herters brand, I'd bet those are a fair bit more effective than the standard 120ish gr FMJs. In fact I understand that such load is pushed to the same velocity levels as the lighter FMJs. That would make the 154gr the true equal of 150gr 30-30 loads wouldn't it? And I sure as hell wouldn't want to take a 30-30 hit.I hear no calibers kill as long as a cop is shooting.
I love 7.62x39. It kills for me quite effectively. Two deer and a hog so far. The hog went down like a rock, although I did sympathy shoot it twice with my 9mm to end its misery. It was certainly no longer combat effective after the Russian hit it though.
