I have 5 AR rifles I want to sell. Problem is now I do not think I can get anything for them. I see them as low as 549 dollars on gunbroker. Will prices get lower as long as trump is in office ? What is going to happen in 4 years during the next election? Is that the only time to sell without losing? I really do not want to wait that long but i see no choice unless i want to take a loss

It's all speculation, of course. I bought some gun stocks before the election. When HRC was on track to win, the stocks kept rising. Once Trump won, all of those stocks turned south and are all negative for me right now.

I am presuming that if you live in NYS and that your ARs are all legally registered as assault weapons or have been otherwise modified so as not to be considered assault rifles since you are in essence broadcasting about them on this site. Who would want them if permanently modified? If registered as assault weapons, I think you can only sell them to LEOs or dealers in NYS or to someone out of state. I would think it is going to be a hard sell in order to make a profit or break even.
Unless a firearm is a collectible, and/or one gotten way below its value, or they are suddenly out of supply, they do not often make good investments. Good luck.
If you still have them in a month and a half or two and are still looking to sell them, send me a PM then. My son has relocated to a free state and he may be interested if he has a job by then.

I agree with above posts. The value will continue to drop or stay the same in my option. I'm happy about it, but I don't have guns to sell only looking to buy one or two and some ammo. Post them up here and see what happens. I have noticed AR's have been cheap lately.
Just hang onto them till the next panic hits.
The Time to dump them was before the election, if you don't need the money put them in the safe for the next 8 years. Of course if Trump stacks the court with 3-4 justices the AR market will be flat for a very long time.

The basic configured ar's value I don't foresee changing much. A custom rifle with upgraded features and parts is probably more desirable for a private sale. Anyone can just buy a cheap $500 rifle and change it up themselves.

All due respect, and I mean that sincerely, I think you need to clarify this statement. When buying a gun and hoping it will retain its value or as an investment, you need to ask yourself how desirable it is as a used gun and what is the current market. I have been buying guns, new and used, for more than 20 years, not as long as many others on here, but I have never seen a mass produced polymer framed gun, or gun loaded down with tons of synthetic furniture, go up in price. Handguns that go up in value are typically made of all steel and have wood grips (1911's, S&W and Colt Revolvers, etc.). Long guns that go up in value are typically hunting/sporting rifles and shotguns with blued finishes and really nice quality wood. I have never seen a 15 year old Glock at my LGS that they were asking more for than a new one.
I think the market has been incredibly saturated with plastic and lower quality mass produced guns and very few if any will ever go up in value. If you're buying something today that is brand new, that you want to become an heirloom or at the very minimum retain its value, you really need to analyze its construction. IMO, guns are a horrible investment. If they go up in value, it takes years and the overall value increase in most cases is incredibly minimal over the long term. You'd probably get a better and faster rate of return in the bond market. It's also a bad investment for me at least because I get emotionally attached to them and virtually never sell anything.
Finally, a lot of people fail to realize that the SAFE Act did an incredible disservice to existing AR owners other than strip us of our constitutional rights. Before the SAFE Act, if you had a legally acquired post ban MSR in NY, you still couldn't have any of the "banned" features. No collapsible stocks, no bayonet lug, etc. but at least you had a market, all of NY, where that gun could still be sold. Now, that gun can never be sold here in NY and why would anyone in any other state who can legally own an MSR want your virtually featureless gun. We're stuck with what we have. Keep it, shoot it, enjoy it, because they really aren't worth much more than that anymore.

The AR is modular, everything on it is user replaceable. You can go from featureless or fixed mag to full blown baby killing machine in a matter of minutes. ARs are always going to have a market, they go up and down in value as the political winds change.

I agree completely, but my $1200 post ban configuration AR isn't worth $800 at this point and isn't worth half that in NY. It still has value, but no where near where it would have and should be.
That really depends on the components, if you bought it in a high market or a low one. The crazy sales days are over for a little while, 750 dollar ARs selling for 1500 aint going to happen for a long time. While stationed in AZ (Clinton's AW Ban Era), I saw Colt ARs going for 3500 bucks and the used M16 sitting next to them selling for 1600. No body is going to get 3500 for their pre ban Colts today. I have a brand new in box pre ban Colt sitting at my Father's place in Oregon which is still worth about double what I paid for it but, it is not worth the 3500 I could have sold it for just after the AWB went into effect. So it is all a matter of condition, timing and location.

Personally, I don't care if the market dictates lower prices. My guns are built with high quality parts,,,such as Lilja barrels and Seekins billet uppers and lowers. The prices on these parts haven't come down but have actually gone up when it comes to the most important part,,,which to me is the barrel. So I wouldn't sell my guns for any less than I paid to build them.
Pre 86 M16 lowers are going for what, 15k now? That would have been an investment.

You guys are either missing or confirming exactly what I said. I'm not sure. As I said in my original post, quality and condition will determine current and long term value. Use that as a guide when making purchasing decisions if you plan on using it as an investment or want a gun to at least retain its value. The point I was trying to make was just that "all guns" don't go up in value and to really evaluate what it is you're buying if you want it to be worth the same or more in the future.

Your probably right about the plastic guns. I have never owned one, have never had any interest in one, and other than weight, have never seen the reason for them. As for weight, I come from the 'I'll get use to it' school of weaponry, even a ten pound M1 would have been something I would have adapted to.

The original Colt SP1 and the preban Sporters still command premium prices from the collector's market. You are not going to find too many Tupperware guns (glocks, Sigmas, M&Ps) that do that though.
Maybe the early FN Five7evens they still go for a pretty penny. The H&Ks demand a premium because they don't import them any more. Even the Daewoo 200s are selling for a little more than you could originally buy them for. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/623938632
