Just wanted to start a discussion if all the current world events are inspiring you guys to do anything differently?

Has any of these events changed your plans or habits?

Perhaps you have "speed up" a timetable of some sort, or bought some new gear specifically because of this.
Maybe you've made a extra runs to the super market to stack it deep while you can.

Maybe you've taken some money out of the banks to have cash on hand?



Just curious what you guys are doing to learn and get ideas.


Personally I've gone grocery shopping more frequently and in larger quantities, keeping vehicles above 1/2 tank, took some money out of bank. I bought some caning supplies and have been watching videos on how to do it. I've never tried before but will try to can some things this year. I am starting to see this as being essential and I'm way far behind on it.

I brainstormed on exactly what I would do and what household items I would use if I have to make an impromptu fallout shelter in the basement. Been brushing up on nuclear war survival skills.

The big project that I'm currently saving for is a solar generator setup.

just got through putting solar on the escape pod, 1500W on the roof, going into a 150/100 MPPT charge controller with a Victron MultiPlus II 3000W inverter and a dc-dc charge controller to charge the batteries while driving. With three 206Ah batteries ( and Im thinking of adding a 4th battery)
the world can now go to hell-in-a-hand-basket, we can now survive (almost) indefinitely without any help from

By the time we got to late January, the World Bank (WB), United Nations (UN) and the Davos / World Economic Forum (WEF) group were discussing it. At first the perspective was the potential for lower crop yields creating increased global famine.
However, if we apply a little hindsight from the geopolitical world surrounding the current issues in Europe, specifically Ukraine, and then consider the background of what the Biden team were doing, while Russia, Belarus and China were stockpiling, things look a little more concerning than just lower crop yields as an outcome of higher natural gas prices – vis-a-vis nitrogen fertilizer.

As noted by Forbes last month, “Russia and China have imposed export restrictions on fertilizer. Both are, or were, big exporters of plant food. The decline in exports makes getting the vital nutrients harder across the globe. China and Russia account for 29% of world exports for nitrogen-based plant food. The two countries also have significant, albeit, smaller shares of the phosphate and potash markets, respectively, the report states.”

In August of 2021 the United States, Canada and the EU hit Belarus with punitive sanctions on the one-year anniversary of what they called a fraudulent election. As noted by Politico at the time, “The sanctions partially ban imports of potash fertilizer, petrol and petrol-based products from Belarus.” […] Targeting Belarus’ potash sector was a strategic move insofar as the country is the second largest exporter of the fertilizer behind Canada, covering 21 percent of the world’s potash exports in 2019.
In September of 2021, at the same time as China was investing heavily in the purchase of U.S. farmland, Beijing simultaneously announced a ban of export for phosphates until June of 2022. With China banning export of the source material, the global fertilizer market now needed to look elsewhere for future purchases.

If you remove the raw material fertilizer products from China, Belarus, Russia and now Ukraine from the global marketplace, that’s over two-thirds of the total global supply gone. As bumbling Joe would say, “That’s a big effen’ deal,” big enough to create havoc when it comes to the 2022 farm growing season in just about every country.

I know I sure as hell am working. 50-60 hours a week but no OT past 40 and a 30 mile commute at these gas prices plus high food costs and increasing rent are all taking a big bite out of me.
I need to find a good tanker gig, or something. There are 100k a year jobs out there, but not in my area. I have to move, but I can't afford it.
Maybe I can find an outfit that can front moving expenses.

Re-prioritizing my purchases over the past 3 years or so. Definitely spent more in the self-protection arena. Now focusing on 30-60 day survival stuff. As far as indefinite sustainment, it will be a tall order for most since a lot of people will be scavenging for whatever you may have stored away, hence the self-protection route first.

A little bit. Prices are higher, but I negotiated a decent raise so that's basically a wash. Just doing my normal things - I still focus on doing things with my family and kids. Kids do Hockey, Soccer, and swimming. Dinner out with them once a week usually, had my oldest do help me out with a minor repair project, etc. Obama, Trump, Biden.... whatever - I don't let it get in the way of what I do.

3 weeks ago I had a hip replacement. Walking with a cane Dr said I can drive if off codeine pain pill for 4 hours. . I have weight limitations ... No more than 10 pounds for now. Don't plan on long distance running .. (wears the joint out fast ) Will not be back to work until may perhaps middle of may. (I move a lot of heavy objects ..7-800 lbs with a pallet jack or on rollers. ) with lifting... Hip was very bad for a long time Have been told I must have a high tolerance for pain . .. Worked until Christmas. .. Started collecting SS and looks like will work part time (not by choice ) but will get by. As much as we bitch about the high cost of health insurance ... Having this done is a life changing event......Would be wheel chair bound without it . Many folks in this world cannot afford a hip replacement ......For everything fucked up in this country it still is the best in the world to live in.
So for now get back in shape . Think about what garden projects are ahead . Will but in a bigger garden , I have no limitations with the hip after say 3 months . (besides running ). Prior to replacement could hardly lift 5 gallons pail of water. .
So far that's my story .Put on 15 pounds (from boredom )...Have eaten out only a handful of times prior to the operation ...(limit covid exposure )

Prepping is a mindset lifestyle. I know people who plan for the end of the world but don't carry a utility knife or firestarter in their vehicle. You have to be able to improvise on the fly and have intuitive gut feeling skills. Be flexible and be able to change objectives as the situation evolves. There are usually multiple solutions to solving a problem, don't be a linear thinker, don't be an overthinker, don't be a procrastinator.

Are you in an eternal state of learning?

Can you live on zero net central energy and make potable water? Survive hypothermic conditions with no heat?

Can you make potable water multiple ways?

How many ways can you make fire?

Can you hike 20 miles with the clothing on your back?

Can you function a week without food?

Have you adapted your plans and resources as you have gotten older?

Assume there is no comfort zone. How much pain can you live with and push forward?
