I think no one builds AR's anymore since the actual parts are mass produced by machine. Even the 80 percent. We are just a bunch of assemblers and tweakers.

Here we go again smh. I remember on the other forum when talking about my silencers being called an "assembler" and not a builder because I put together end caps and a tube. Even though I did form and drill the baffles and end cap. Also had to measure and cut the blast chamber so every thing fit together nice and tight. Well, if you're so confident that you're not a manufacturer go ahead and "assemble" some silencers, short barrel rifles and machine guns. Should hold up just fine in court.

Yup. But even that wasn't enough for this stubborn individual. Even putting together pre cut, milled, drilled, ground etc materials is manufacturing according to the law. If that wasn't the case then anyone with pistol ars and aks could simply slap on a stock and be good to go. The whole thing about the parts being pre fabricated is just silly. That would mean that NO ONE manufactures/builds (whatever you want to call it) ANYTHING ever. For instance you'd have to chop down your own lumber, cut it to size and treat it. Mine ore, refine it, melt it, to create screws, nails, brackets, sinks, tubs, frames etc. Mine kaolin to make anything porcelain. If you miss any of these steps you didn't build a house.

I did chop down the tree for my stock wood, and I'm fixing to do it again, Nice big Black cherry on the far corner of my land, it is going to be sweet. I figure there are at least sixteen full length stocks and multiple half stocks, not to mention pistol stocks!!!! I'm pretty excited, looks like a lot of New England style fowling guns in my future.

When you order a piece of furniture on the internet and it arrives to your house and you have to install the legs with Allen screws and nail the backing on with a hammer, did you build it?
The obvious answer is no. That's the same thing you are doing with an AR. In the case of grabbing a pipe and drilling holes into it, attaching baffles as what not, you built that silencer.

I build all my guns. I personally mine the ore, smelt it, forge into parts. The tools I use for this process I have also constructed myself purely by my own hands. As you can guess, the first ore I ever chipped out of my personal mine was hard to get at because it involved using wooden tools upon which I attached stones using homemade string.
Everything I have machined has been made with tools that I also built from scratch. I taught myself electronics and built my very own micrometer in my personal factory, that factory built only with parts either raw from the ground or produced, in turn, in my building materials factory.
I use my own pee for the gunpowder even.

Well I had a complete lower shipped to my FFL and complete upper shipped to my house.
When I finally got them together in my hands, I popped the pins on the lower and inserted the upper into the lower.
I built it with my hands.

Using the phrase "rifle build" in a statement makes sense to me. Most people are sourcing out different components to construct a personalized rifle. A lot of the time, they don't work and need modifications to function properly during the construction to get to the point of a usable firearm. Just like if you're building a drag car, odds are it's personalized too and doesn't exist as a avalible unit to assemble. And just because you kept the stock frame doesn't mean it's not a build. Most builds of anything do not start off in a complete crude form of elements that need to be refined into an individual component.

Ok. Then. I concede. You guys are correct. I built my AR by putting the upper and lower together along with putting in a different stock, buffer, and spring.
I also built the coffee table I bought from Wayfair by putting together the legs with an allen wrench.

I replaced the rims and exhaust on my Jeep along with the radio and speakers. Did I build it?
